At Tuesday's meeting, the Council
  • recognized Council Member Derek Kitchen for his three years of service on the City Council, and two years of service in leadership of the Redevelopment Agency. Derek will leave the Council in January in order to serve in the Utah State Legislature.

  • was briefed about Salt Lake's potential candidacy as a host city for a future Winter Olympics. The Council also adopted a resolution supporting the execution of an Olympic Expression of Interest Agreement.
Also, the Council Serving as the RDA Board

The Board also received an update about the facilitation process for the proposed large-scale mixed-use development project on Block 67, a City block bounded by 100 South, 200 South, 200 West, and 300 West. The Board requested the RDA facilitate discussions between the developer (The Ritchie Group), Salt Lake County, and the Japanese-American Community about how to mitigate potential impacts of the project on adjacent properties.

In the coming weeks, the Council will consider officially entering into an agreement with the Utah Transit Authority to provide expanded bus service within the City along key routes. This agreement sets the framework for City-sponsored transit service, with yearly check-ins to refine service levels. The Transit Master Plan and service priorities are based on feedback already received, but now the Council wants to know what other transit improvements you want to see in Salt Lake City. Your input informs the City’s current discussions and future negotiations with UTA.

Weigh in on Open City Hall, or attend a public hearing Tuesday, December 11 at 7 p.m. in Room 315 of the Salt Lake City & County Building.  The Council is also scheduled to discuss the draft agreement this Tuesday, December 4. Follow along on Facebook, on our website, or sit in on the work session in Room 326 of the City & County Building.
