Greetings Blue Nation!

When I watch our teams compete, I always think about the countless hours of practice that come before game winning goals, or personal records. I also know that for every student-athlete, there are countless alumnae, family and friends behind them rooting for their success. It is in these moments that I am most thankful for you, Blue Nation. Our teams feel your support from all corners of the globe.

It is for this reason that I'm calling on Blue Nation to come together on Tuesday, December 11th when Wellesley athletics holds its first ever Blue Nation Giving Day. For 24 hours, we’re asking you to support our student-athletes by giving to Friends of Wellesley College Athletics. The full details are below, but for now, know that your gift, no matter the size, makes a big difference to our programs. Friends of Wellesley College Athletics donations supplement one quarter of our annual operational budget; your support makes a difference.

I hope, as always, you enjoy reading about our student-athletes and programs. Thank you, as always, for your support. May your holidays be filled with peace, joy and love.

Warm wishes,

Director of Athletics
Chair of Physical Education and Recreation

24 Wellesley Student-Athletes Present at Annual Tanner Conference

A total of 24 Wellesley College student-athletes presented at the annual Tanner Conference on October 30, 2018. Each year on the day of the conference, classes are canceled so that the entire Wellesley community can gather to learn from students about their participation in and learning from internships, civic engagement, study abroad and other opportunities.

Presenters have the chance to reflect upon their experiences and share their insights and growth with their peers, while attendees learn about the ways in which such experiences can complement the classroom experience and clarify one's interests and goals. Many students describe presenting at and attending Tanner as a highlight of their Wellesley experience. A complete list of student-athlete presenters can be found below. Recreation Spotlight: Climbing Trip

On a perfect New England fall day 12 intrepid students trekked to Rumney, N.H., one of the premier sport climbing destinations in the country, to tackle a day of challenge and reward. This programming is made possible by the efforts of the Wellesley Recreation team, Monica Verity and Meg Peterson '15

Student Voices:

“It was amazing! I've never been climbing before so this was a wonderful introduction with a great peer network and instructor. I've never felt so supported before or so encouraged to step outside my comfort zone.”

“It was better than I thought it would be, I was surprised by how different real rock climbing was compared to a rock climbing gym."

“Yes it met my expectations. I didn’t expect to be able to get very far on the rock, but I was surprised getting to the top of the cliff!”
