Mayor Bill Hurley Passes

Fayetteville has lost one of its greatest visionaries and champions for change. Former Mayor Bill Hurley passed away over the Thanksgiving weekend. Hurley served as Mayor from 1981 to 1987 and in the N.C. House of Representatives until 2002, when he retired from office. He co-founded the Dogwood Festival and helped raise funds for the Lafayette statue in Cross Creek Park on Green Street. More Info

Loose Leaf Pickup Begins

Loose Leaf Pickup service has begun in Fayetteville. City staff is collecting loose leaves by zip code and collection has started in the 28304 zip code. Residents in that zip code should have their loose leaves to the curb immediately. Further details about loose leaf collection dates by zip code, which neighborhoods are being collected and more is available here

Citizens Academy Being Held on Dec. 11

The next Fayetteville Citizens Academy class is being held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, starting in the Grove Street Conference Room, located at 455 Grove St. The conference room is located in the City Services building, adjacent to the Valero gas station and across from Talecris Plasma Services. Class begins at 9 a.m. and features the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST), Fayetteville Regional Airport and the Traffic and Street and Stormwater Maintenance divisions. More Info

Christmas in the Park is Dec. 6-20

Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation invites the public to bring family and friends for a leisurely stroll on a ½ mile paved walking trail while taking in the sights and sounds of the Christmas season. Guests will enjoy entertainment provided by local artists, roast marshmallows at the fire pit and get creative at the craft station. The public can also relax and watch favorite holiday movies on the outdoor movie screen, take a ride on the Christmas Express train and visit with Santa! More Info
