From the Principal

Charlie EisenreichA tiger is inherently a solitary animal that does quite well on its own. A tiger can usually fend for itself. When tigers do come together, the most common term used to describe a group of tigers is “ambush”. Using “Join the Ambush” as a backdrop, Activities Director Dave Langerud has embarked on a fundraising campaign to help bring students, families, alumni, and community members together with the goal to enhance event experiences for all at the New Tech High School. Opening in the fall of 2019, our new school plans include a beautiful, 21st century learning campus, accented with gorgeous outdoor learning spaces, and outstanding athletic facilities. With that said, I want to share with you some needs that Tech cannot acquire due to a limited construction budget:

  1. Digital Score Boards – we will have state of the art digital score boards and hope to build annual advertising revenue using the boards, need to supplement the overage in score board costs ~$35,000
  2. Gym Floor Graphics – add logo design to base lines ~$10,000
  3. Light Pole/Wall/Ceiling Banners: add banners to light poles around school and indoor walls and ceilings.  Banners include terms such as RESPECT – EXCELLENCE – TRADITION – ENGAGE – INSPIRE – PRIDE – TIGERS – RESPONSIBILITY ~$5000
  4. Stadium Bleacher Banner: add large banner w/logo that covers the back of stadium bleachers ~$15,000
  5. Pre-Fab Logo Panel: a large panel with our Tiger logo has been donated. To move and install ~ $20,000.
  6. Logo Cross-Over Track Protector is needed to preserve our track when athletes walk across it with cleats ~ $1000
  7. Portable Bleachers: additional portable bleachers for outdoor events ~ $2500 a piece

To learn more on how you can become a partner and contribute to the new Tech High School, please email Dave Langerud at david.langerud@isd742.org, and come Join the Ambush!

New Tech Update

“Amazing!” “Wow!” “It’s incredible!” “I can’t believe how beautiful this place is!” “It’s been so long overdue!” “Is that really artificial turf?”

These are just some of the comments from onlookers as they completed a drive through of the New Tech High School on November 17. Approximately 360 community members took advantage of the opportunity to get an up-close view of the site and witness the progress of our new home. The interior of the building is beginning to take shape and is looking more like a school every day. The pool is beginning to look – well – like a pool, and the auditorium is becoming a theatre with each passing day. Sheetrock installation is progressing in the first Learning Neighborhood where classrooms are coming into form. Window installation is nearing completion. According to Kyle Walter, Construction Manager, the project continues to remain on schedule.

As construction moves forward, our staff is becoming more prepared for the new building. Teachers are currently receiving training and using the Pilot Classroom at the existing Tech HS. The Pilot Classroom resembles what staff will experience in the new building. Complete with flexible furniture and up to date technology, teachers are learning about and using the 21st century features to enhance their instruction.

New Visitor Check-in Procedure

Tech High School works to consistently review and update procedures in order to provide students, staff, and families with the best possible security. As a result, Tech installed a new Raptor Visitor Management Technology System to the main entrance at Door 20. What is it? The "K-12 Visitor Management System" by Raptor Technologies helps our school screen visitors through the use of national databases. In doing so, it can screen visitors for significant concerns, such as sex offenders, and maintain accurate visitor records. Roughly 23,000 campuses across the U.S. use the system.

ALL Adult Visitors will need to have a driver's license or MN State ID with you as you visit during a student contact day and be prepared to share it for scanning. If you have neither, a hand entry will be made so please be prepared to share information. All other procedures will remain much the same. The information you provide is compared with available databases that lets the door monitor know if you are approved for entry. Once we have the procedures well established, you should no longer be signing in and out on paper. This procedure is only required during the school day when classes are in session.

What happens if a visitor is deemed unacceptable for entry? Administration is notified both by text and E-Mail so they can offer explanation and assistance as necessary. Explanations as to the security and safety of all will be reviewed and restated. The visitor will be declined entry. Tech is a safe place and the system is being put into place because we take student, staff, and family safety and security very seriously. The system will follow us to the new Tech High School.

We are excited to support our cadre of dedicated, caring staff who work with visitor entry at Door 20 with advanced technology designed to enhance safety. We thank you in advance for your patience as we begin the use of this new technology!

We Act Students Participate in Operation Christmas Child
TECH We Act students participated in Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Through this outstanding program, Tech We Act students filled shoeboxes with donated items like toys, school supplies, and hygiene items, creating gifts that can make a significant difference in the lives of hurting and vulnerable children around the world. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to more than 135 million children in over 150 countries and territories. TECH We Act was hoping to help Operation Christmas Child collect enough shoebox gifts this year to reach 12 million children.

Tech DECA Timberwolves/Lynx Business Club Day
Our Tech chapter of DECA visited the Target Center on Nov. 13 to learn about careers in Sports Management. All business areas were represented in several different panels with a player (Danielle Robinson) also included in the days presentations. Students also received a game ticket. Tech DECA is open to any student of Tech HS and is a business and marketing club for students interested in business. They compete regionally, at the state, and national level. The events are mostly role plays where a student or team of students present in front of a judge. To join, stop in room 122 and talk to Mr. Derek Miller.
