All of us at World Relief Triad wish you a merry and joyful holiday season! We want to say a special thank you to everyone who has supported the #GivingTuesday push as a launch to our end-of-year campaign. We believe we can reach $10,000 before the end of year. Will you "SAY YES" and help us reach our goal?

BE A PART OF THE STORY

The Tweldes have blessed me and the other women in our Good Neighbor Team with the name "Mama," and we have all settled into this permanent deep relationship best described as "family." My heart often aches for our family, especially when I hear bits of their story about what they left behind in Eritrea. I've been moved to tears when I've been around when phone calls from family in Eritrea have come. They all miss each other so much but I've heard them tell their mothers that they are OK because they have three Mamas now...

TIP OF THE MONTH

Overcoming language barriers:
1) Exposure to the English language and persistence on a refugee's part are key to learning.
2) As volunteers expose themselves to the accent of the refugees whom they are befriending, they will be able to understand their English better.
3) Do not be afraid to use broken English. Sometimes this can help refugees. For example: say "You go, grocery store, bread" instead of, "You should go to the grocery store to buy more bread."

THE POWER OF YOUR VOICE

While refugees have been featured prominently in the news over the past couple of years, there is often still confusion about who refugees are and the process through which they resettle in the United States.  Follow the links below to learn more about refugees and their journey to the US in order to educate your community about refugee issues.

LOG YOUR HOURS!

As a non-profit, the recording of volunteer hours is essential to the funding and impact of our programs. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of our volunteers log time and mileage. Volunteer Hours are valued at $24.69 an hour and help us raise a cash match for refugee programs.

GET INVOLVED- HEALTH CLASS

Many of our clients never received basic health education in their home countries. Here at World Relief, we are able to provide them with this education through our Health Classes. We teach topics like hygiene practices, how to know the difference between a cold and the flu, as well as how to navigate the American healthcare system so that they can advocate for themselves in medical situations. If you are interested in teaching or participating in these classes, check out our volunteer page below!

A SPECIAL THANK YOU

We are so grateful to the High Point Community Foundation for the incredible support they have shown us by awarding World Relief Triad the Scholastic Testing and Education Preparedness Program grant this year! With over 700 volunteers and a strong community base, we plan to equip foreign born high school students and young adults with academic preparation and test-taking skills, so they can qualify for advanced education and the training necessary for career advancement. Through this grant, we are able to hire an instructor to tailor programs that are suited for the unique needs of immigrants and refugees!
