An Invitation to Join a New Library
Friends Group at North Leigh
A Friends Group for North Leigh library is being established and an invitation is being extended to anyone wishing to offer their support or register their interest in joining. Please read on to find out more.
North Leigh Library is a popular, modern branch that is well supported by the community, the local schools and the Parish Council. By establishing a Friends Group to work in collaboration with the library manager, the branch will be able to extend its offerings and be more responsive to the needs of the community it serves in North Leigh, Witney and the surrounding area.
From providing craft workshops for kids to book groups and ‘knit and natter’ meetings, it is hoped the library can continue to strengthen its role as a much-needed social hub to ease loneliness and encourage community interaction.
Many local communities benefit from having an active Friends Group. There are currently 22 Oxfordshire libraries receiving affiliated support from volunteers who recognise the importance of reading, learning and Libraries, often known as ‘Library Friends’. No two Oxfordshire Library Friends groups are the same. Some bring people together through tailored events and activities whilst others support the working of the library service. However, all are united in the dedication shown by their members in recognising the importance and value of reading and learning for people of all ages.
Might you consider joining North Leigh Library as a Friend or perhaps as a volunteer, or both? There are a number of ways you could help, including fundraising and raising awareness of the local branch in the community and online. Perhaps you have specific skills to share? We are especially keen to find a treasurer and secretary.
