Thankfulness. Gratitude. Joy. Peace. Serenity.

Got Thanksgiving?
It’s no secret that living a life with an “attitude of gratitude” brings an abiding inner sense of satisfaction and contentment. We’ve all felt it, some more than others. If you’re like me, it’s fleeting at times when I’m struggling; other times I lose track of time when I’m “present in the moment.” However I choose to look at it, it’s a daily discipline. A muscle to be flexed. I’m thankful for the community of support around normalizing breastfeeding and am especially grateful for the compass that the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition is which has guided me in my personal journey from a new breastfeeding mom to an advocate for mothers, babies and families around our human specie’s first food.

Got breastmilk?
My daughters did for what it’s worth. And, for that I am grateful, too. I thought it was all about me and my amazing mothering abilities. Our mammary glands are amazing, but it wasn’t about me. I got lucky. I didn’t have many barriers. Not everyone is so fortunate. I show my gratitude for my bounty by trying to remove barriers for those mothers and babies and families bumping into them daily.

I’ve got it and I’m grateful. Thank you San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition for every opportunity you’ve given me!

Kim Speckhahn, IBCLC
President, SDCBC

Thank you to those who have submitted!

In 2018, over 4,000 copies of our Breastfeeding Resource Guide were distributed throughout San Diego County. It includes free breastfeeding helplines, how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk, where to find breastfeeding support, and a list of providers of lactation services.
Many of your favorite resources will be included in the upcoming year as well as a many new ones! This just means more and more resources are becoming available for breastfeeding families in San Diego. This is AMAZING.
Be apart of our effort to ensure breastfeeding women have access to the resources they need!

Tips for Feeding Through the Holidays

"A cousin of mine once dressed in a red cheongsam and wear her then newborn in a metallic colored baby wrap to Chinese New Year family gathering. She breastfed the baby through the dinner and no one even noticed. At the end of the night our uncle asked what happened to her right arm. He actually thought the baby in the wrap was a broken arm!"

This year I've pledged to do all of my shopping online through smile.amazon.com because not only do I avoid the crowds and the pressure to find everything in one trip, but the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate a percentage of the purchase price of eligible products to SDCBC. Gift giving made even greater by giving to my loved ones AND to an organization that does so much for our community. If you'd like to join my pledge, make sure to select San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition as  your charitable organization and always shop on smile.amazon.com (it won't donate if you use amazon.com). Read more>>

About San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition (SDCBC)

Driven by the mission to promote and support breastfeeding in the community, SDCBC aims to support approximately 40,000 babies born in San Diego County every year. With close to 70% of infants losing out on breast milk after six months of age, SDCBC was formed to promote the benefits of longer term breastfeeding for infants, mothers, families, and society at large. The organization was formed in 1994 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) association combined of private and public organizations and individuals, increasing education and support for breastfeeding.
