Where exceptional teachers emerge.

Thank you for your interest in the UCSB Teacher Education Program (TEP). 
In this email, we will explain the three types of financial aid offered to support our students:
Federal, Program Grants, and Privately Funded Fellowships and Scholarships.

At UC Santa Barbara, you will:

  • Earn your teaching credential and Master’s Degree in 13 months
  • Learn by being fully immersed in classroom teaching
  • Build community within one closely connected cohort

The 2019-2020 application deadline is February 1, 2019.

Application Fee Waiver Reminder:

You may apply for a fee waiver within the online application, but you must submit your entire application to Graduate Division two weeks before the February 1, 2019 deadline if you choose to do so (turning your new due date into Friday, January 18, 2019).

Financial Assistance Options
Federal Grants, Scholarships, and Loans

TEACH Grant ($4,000)
For teacher candidates who commit to teach in a high need field and low income school upon completing their credential
How to Apply: File for FAFSA twice (once for the 2019 Summer, another for the 2019-20 school year) and contact your school's financial aid office to confirm your eligibility and to complete the TEACH Grant counseling.
 
5th Year Cal Grant Teaching Credential Benefits (Covers Cost of Tuition)
For students who have received a Cal Grant A or B award within 15 months of Fall quarter enrollment
How to Apply: Submit the G-44 form directly to the California Student Aid Commission.

Scholarships for Science and Mathematics Teachers ($ Varies)
For Math and Science teacher candidates
How to Apply: Monitor the UCSB CalTeach website for the 2019-20 Noyce and STELLAR applications. They are due February 15, 2019.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan (Up to $20,500)
How to Apply: File for FAFSA twice (once for Summer, another for the school year) and see the application links on our Financial Aid Website.

Graduate Plus Loans (Covers All Other Education Costs)
How to Apply:  File for FAFSA twice (once for Summer, another for the school year) and see the application links on our Financial Aid Website.
Program Block Grants
 
The UCSB Teacher Education Program distributes 45-60 grants each year to accepted students. The amount awarded varies depending on an individual's financial need and professional promise ($2,000-$6,000).
How to Apply: Express interest when you are filling out the eApp. It will be the Financial Aid question beneath the Personal Achievements & Contributions section.
Privately Funded Fellowships and Scholarships

TEP Fellowships and Scholarships
Generous donors support UCSB TEP students through a variety of privately funded fellowships ($500-$5,000). 
How to Apply: TEP students may apply during their school year.

External Fellowships and Scholarships
Do your research! There may be other scholarships available to you based on your student status (i.e. graduate student, teaching credential), financial need, or demographic characteristic.
