Message from the President

As educators, we take seriously the goal of partnering with families to provide the best environment for students to grow and develop. The opportunity to look at the process from the viewpoint of a parent has given me a renewed commitment to this idea of partnership. The time here at Maryville College is just the latest step in a journey that began at birth and will continue after the student graduates. I have spent my career enjoying the chance to see students challenge themselves as they discover their potential and begin to achieve it. This can be difficult both for them and for their family, as sometimes they find their vocation to be different than originally anticipated.

Our daughter is now a senior in college and is seriously considering what comes after graduation. Her program is one in which she has the option of going directly into the workforce or directly into graduate school, and she has worked in both an industry setting and in a research setting while in school to gain knowledge regarding those options. At Maryville College, we ask every student to complete a significant practical experience so that they are both well prepared for the next step and confident that the next step is the right one for them. I am grateful for the many people helping her discern the next step, and I am proud to be part of a caring community that helps the students here.

Thank you for sharing your student with Maryville College. I look forward to congratulating you at Commencement and through the years ahead, and encourage you to continue to work together with us in partnership. May this be a blessed holiday season for you.

Maryville College President

Academics: Inclement Weather/School Closing Procedures

Students in front of iglooIn the event that classes are cancelled or delayed due to adverse weather conditions, students are advised to check the Maryville College website for detailed information. MC is equipped with an emergency communications system that emails, texts and calls students, faculty and staff in case of a campus emergency or closure. Additionally, area radio and TV stations will be notified by 7 a.m. on the day in question. Because we are a residential campus, essential staff will still report to work, so certain services, including dining services, will not close or cease operations. As for rehearsals, performances, practices, games, etc., students should check with faculty and staff in charge of those areas. More information can be found on the MC website.

Information Technology: Self-Service Accounts and Final Grades

Having your own Self-Service account allows you to update your permanent address and phone numbers. This ensures that you receive communications and information from Maryville College regarding your student, especially in the case of an emergency.

Additionally, students may choose (but are not required) to share portions of their information with individuals who are designated as relatives in Self-Service. If grades have been shared, you will be able to view Final Grades as they are posted in December.

Please refer to the Parent and Student Shared Access instructions to get started.

Students should contact the Registrar’s Office at (865) 981-8212 or registrar@maryvillecollege.edu to request relative information be added.
