#ChildrenToo Report

January 2019
Join the #ChildrenToo Movement
Most have heard over the last few years of the #MeToo movement, focused on the protection of women from unwanted sexual contact.  The #MeToo movement obtained significant awareness and results in 2017 and 2018 due to brave women in Hollywood stepping forward.  However, the issue of child sexual abuse still needs to be addressed.  Children are uniquely incapable of giving consent, even when the perpetrator may justify that sexual contact was consensual.  In 2018, the history of abuse within the Catholic Church again made headlines, as the church revealed a cover up in Pennsylvania that affected hundreds of victims over a 70-year period.  Abuse is not going away.  Past abuse, like that in Pennsylvania, is revealed on a nearly daily basis.  Greater recognition has not yet resulted in sufficient protection for our children.  Our children need to be protected and those who fail to do so need to be held accountable.

We at Monsees & Mayer are taking up the #ChildrenToo banner.  It is time to take the next step to protect victims and potential victims.  At Monsees & Mayer, we have successfully pursued dozens of cases against organizations and individuals who have perpetrated abuse on children.  We venture to protect those who cannot protect themselves.  We have worked with a large number of attorneys who have referred cases to us to take advantage of our unique, and frequently, troubling expertise.

Our first action in our #ChildrenToo movement is to provide needed information.  Our experience has shown us that many victims, advocates and prosecuting attorneys are aware of the criminal justice process but are not familiar with the actions that can be taken through the civil justice system.   We have written a booklet for the sole purpose of providing victims and their families with the information they need to know about their civil rights.  Our attorneys understand this is a very sensitive and trying time for families.  Our publication largely exists as a helpful guide for victims and their loved ones.  We believe that the more information a victim has, the more power they have.  Below you can download a PDF version of our booklet.

We will use future issues of this Sexual Abuse Newsletter to provide information regarding child sexual abuse claims, changing laws, recent developments and similar information.   Until then, take a look at some of our most recent blogs
