(This Monday Motivator is powered by Crayon - reinventing the recruitment journey by introducing personality and trait profiling)

Greetings fellow business owner,

Having a solid client base is the basis for keeping your business running. A lot has been said and too much of a big deal has been made about it. The reality is - knocking on doors to get your products and services out into the market is a tough game and requires patience and persistence. Getting new clients and keeping existing clients happy and close to your business is ever changing, especially in the digital age. Our Monday Motivator is here to provide you with various tips around how to find new clients and how to keep existing ones to keep your spirits up. No matter how you put these tips into practice, get ready to be inspired.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CUSTOMERS

Selling is about people and you have to built relationships first before you can start selling your products and services. In order to build relationships you need to pay attention and understand who your clients actually are. Start with asking yourself these questions. What is your business? Who are your clients? What do your clients talk about? What do they value? What do the clients of your clients value? There are many different ways to finding the answers to these questions. Just go online and search for your (potential) clients . Explore their websites, their company profiles on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, SME Pages/Business Opportunity Marketplace. What are they talking about? Which content do they share?

SALES IS ABOUT ATTENTION

Real relationships take time and it means you are going to have to put in the hard yards interacting and engaging with stakeholders. Social media and the internet have many faults but they do give you a variety of different tools and communication assets to do just that. The single biggest threat to traditional media businesses is that their clients are now their competitors: You can build your own content and audiences and connect directly with very specific people in organisations through a number of tools, but you are going to have to give it structured attention. If you find engaging new people hard then set dedicated time and goals: Write down the number of people you want to reach in a bite-sized list, dedicate time to connecting with them and then tick them off the list.

BE A HUMAN

Stop hiding behind technology – there is no app for being a human. No matter how many times you post your product or service on social media, you aren’t going to get deals done from behind a keyboard – start talking to people! DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A CLASSIC E-MAIL

Every time you are communicating via e-mail you’re having an opportunity to present your business and generate sales leads. The secret sauce (besides the content of the message) lies in your e-mail signature. Don’t make it just a bland list of contact details. Describe which problems your business solves and the value clients get out of products and services. If available, include links to some articles you’ve published and encourage people to engage you on them.

SPREAD THE WORD

Share what you are currently working on. When you share, you give businesses an opportunity to become aware of you in the context of the work you are doing. It’s not only about saying I’m selling fridges or offering logistics solutions. Stating simply that doesn’t provide the context a client is looking for. For instance, share that you are equipping restaurants with innovative fridge systems that reduce energy consumption storage solutions or that you are offering logistics solutions for small businesses that are making their first steps in online selling. Whatever you are working on, share it on platforms like http:///decusatio.jte.zone or social media.
