MGB Register Weekend 2019

A new MGB GT that’s an interesting proposition, well it’s nearly forty years since you could buy a brand new one from a dealer, but I think I have the next best thing a 1980 MGB GT with only 570 miles on the clock.
A little background regarding myself and MGs if I may. I will have been a continuous member of the MGCC for fifty years next year, I have never been without an MG since the sixties and this GT is the 21st MG I have owned. I think the joy of owning an MG is experiencing the varied styles of motoring from my first MG a 1934 PA through to VA, TC, TD, TF, MGA Midget, MGB Roadster, MGF, MGTF. Currently I run a MG GS and a TF LE500.
Now back to my newest acquisition, the MGB GT. The car has come over from Germany where it was registered for the first time ever. It is believed to have been supplied to Kennings Ltd Derby in 1980. It still has all the original Leyland documentation along with type approval. The build date is 9th to 10th July 1980 and it was dispatched on the 5th August.

The car was sold at Silverstone Auctions in late 2017 and I presume then went to Germany, where I purchased it. The car is as it left the factory with original specification of Black body with orange cloth interior. I have changed all the fluids: engine, gearbox, back axle, brake fluids, and the water. No doubt this has been done before but I know I have done it for myself.
It has just had its first ever MOT in the U.K. HMRC have been informed to obtain NOVA clearance, paperwork has been completed and sent to the DVLA to obtain a registration number and V5.
The cars future, well I intend to use the car as it should be to keep it in good mechanical shape. I will most likely not do more than 1,000 miles a year attending my usual MGCC events. As I am in my 75th year even in ten years time it will only be in the region of 10,000 miles on the clock!!
I would welcome any information regarding the past history of the car and where it has been stored.

Winter Project MGB Engines
During 2018 Adrian Goodson and Alan Hall set about logging all their MGB engine parts to either sell or actually put them together to make a recondition unit. Many of these parts were brand new or New Old stock so as you can appreciate very valuable. After looking at every thing it was decided to build three (18V) quality MGB engines. This took some time and care to build these engines making sure parts were all well within tolerance’s and all the actual engineering work such as Cylinder boring, Crankshaft regrinding and cylinder head and block facing was outsourced to an excellent engine engineering company.

After the engines were assembled, Adrian, had an engine test bed ( which he had previously built for an earlier engine he tested). All the engines were run up on the Test bed and all ran sweetly for 20 minutes on an initial run in period( these were also filmed as proof) and are now ready for sale on Facebook, Gumtree and Shpock. Two engines are pure MGB units (1840cc) with the third being MGB/Marina 1798 cc) as the crank spigot ( on a NOS crank shaft) is smaller either for a Morris Marina or MGB 5 Speed gearbox conversion. The engines are very reasonably priced at being very close to cost as our engine project has been about resurrecting these lovely old engines back into service. It has been enjoyable doing these engines and it is hoped with useable exchange engines, they can be also resurrected into affordable carefully put together reconditioned units for MGB enthusiasts.
