Programs for Kids and Families
The kids have an extra-long Winter Break this year! Make the library your go-to place for free, boredom-busting fun. The children’s corner is stocked with a variety of puzzles, toys, and games, and our STEM toy collection is always available. We also have several special activities planned just for the break. Join us for the free movie on January 3, and check out the drop-in challenges, too!

The Escape Room game was a great success, and we look forward to hosting another one soon. In the meantime, join us every Friday afternoon for video games, board games, RPG's, and more. Snacks provided.

The award-winning January Series of Calvin College is coming to the library! We will again be hosting a livestream webcast of this popular series each weekday, Jan. 3 - 23. The hour-long lectures begin at 12:30, and selected talks will be followed by a facilitated discussion. The 15 speakers will offer informed perspectives on a wide range of issues, including political polarization, immigration, climate justice, and sexual abuse. For more information on the speakers and topics, visit the January Series website at calvin.edu/january. Cookies and beverages will be served, and you are welcome to bring a lunch.

From the Director's Corner
Wow! The holiday season is here again and our minds naturally turn to gift giving. The library’s entry shelf is full of items you can purchase for giving. Or you can give the gift of reading by shopping from the Friends of the Library book closet, purchasing a Christmas themed book on display in the library, purchasing a vintage Treasures book, adopting a magazine by donating the subscription price, or renewing an out-of-district library card for a family member or friend. Drop by the library and do your shopping here.
The Kids Food Basket collection bin is out. They especially need peanut butter and 100% juice boxes as well as Cheerios, raisins and goldfish crackers, for trail mix packages. Just drop in your donation and we will see that it gets delivered.
We also accept donations for the birds for purchasing suet blocks throughout the year. This helps wintering birds make it through to summer.
Be sure to check out all the upcoming programs too – the list is growing.
I must close this newsletter by saying it has been a fantastic, busy and wonderful 7 years since I arrived. I have enjoyed working with our staff, board and Friends group and meeting all those who have come through our doors. I will be retiring at the end of this year, but not leaving Whitehall. I plan to continue to help the library grow and look forward to more leisure time to read and enjoy more books as well as the wonderful White Lake area. I wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season and hope to see many of you around the area.
Sincerely,
Shelley Williams
