Good Backyard Bird Photos Needed!
When we put together the postcard for the last Seed Sale, we wanted it to be bright and eye-catching so we used a variety of colorful birds. But several members pointed out that several of the birds we included—a Great Blue Heron, a Black Vulture, a Snow Bunting, etc.—might occur in Kentucky but they're hardly considered "backyard birds," much less birds we'd expect at our feeders. So we're setting out to remedy that with the next Seed Sale postcard by featuring backyard bird photos by our backyard bird-feeding members. If you've got a good backyard bird picture that you'd like to have featured on the next Seed Sale info postcard, please send it to seedsale@CKAS.org. We'll pick the best shots and use them to embellish the next Seed Sale advertising card.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up for the last CKAS Seed Sale at Southern States and took advantage of our inaugural 10% Discount Day. If you missed us, the next 10% Discount Day is on January 12th. But you don't need to wait until then to get your $10 Discount Card and start saving 5% on every bird-related purchase: cards are still available at Southern States on Palumbo Drive. Just ask at the counter.
Not my backyard! Some "backyard birds" from the last Seed Sale postcard.

Masterson Station Park Advisory Board Rep Needed
Care to have a say in the direction of one of Lexington's biggest parks? Central Kentucky Audubon holds a seat on the eighteen-member Masterson Station Park Advisory Board which meets quarterly at 6pm on the first Wednesdays of March, June, September, and December. Our current representative, Paula Plonski (who has been AWESOME!) is wrapping up her four-year term and we need someone who is willing to be the local voice for the birds. This is an important time for Masterson Station, which is set to have its Master Plan reevaluated. This could be your chance to help push the Park toward more environmentally responsible development, increasing natural habitat areas and protecting birds for years to come. Each of the four meetings is guaranteed to run less an hour (tight ship) and there's no homework, so there's very little time commitment. And it's a chance for you to do some real good for birds. Contact MSPB@CKAS.org.

What Happened to the Good Giving Challenge?
Several people have noticed that CKAS is not listed in this year's Good Giving Guide Challenge. About that: The Challenge been one of our best fundraisers, not to mention a way to spread the word about what we do for birds, but this year it only lasts one week and there's a steepish cost to get in, so we opted not to participate. Instead, if you would like to support CKAS with a year-end donation, mailed a check payable to CKAS c/o 525 Rosemont Garden, Lexington KY 40503. If you would like to make a credit card donation, please use our BGCF info page (via the green Donate button). We are working on getting an active Facebook Donate button, but it may be a few months before FB processes our request. Remember, we also participate in Kroger Community Reward and Amazon Smile! Thanks in advance.

What if you don't receive Audubon Magazine? Then you're probably not an official member of the National Audubon Society. You don't have to be to get our newsletter or attend events, but you can join NAS for only $20 annually (& help support CKAS in the process) by following his link. Select "KY | Central Kentucky Audubon (J51)" under the Chapter Donation Designation menu to automatically return your first year's dues directly to our chapter so we can do that much more to help local birds.
