You helped MITS raise $20,675 on Giving Tuesday!
Giving Tuesday is an annual day of giving when individuals around the world support the causes and charities they care about by donating money. This year, thanks to everyone who donated, MITS had the most successful Giving Tuesday in history, with $20,675 in donations on November 27!
Several factors made this Giving Tuesday so successful.
- A group of donors agreed to match what came in on Giving Tuesday, which turned every dollar into $2
- Many of you created Facebook campaigns and shared them on your personal profiles. Thank you especially to Amy Surdacki, Margetta Coulston, Marilyn Chesnutt, Christian Yoder, and anyone else who did the same. Thanks to these and other fundraisers, donations through Facebook totaled $2725. And did you know you can create a Facebook fundraiser any day of the year? Perhaps for your next birthday, consider asking for donations to MITS instead. Facebook makes it easy to set up >>
- Lots of people gave! 64 individual donors to be exact. When word gets out and lots of people get involved, big things happen.
Want to know what your funds are helping provide? In addition to keeping the budget balanced for our ongoing street ministry and school programs,
- You are giving a Christmas party to the Eastleigh Centre, sharing the love of Jesus and the joy of Christmas through new clothes, nutritious food, and the warmth of a loving community.
- You are providing Christmas presents for our students, who look forward to the gifts of new clothes, shoes, and supplies, just like the children in your life do too.
- You are sponsoring an awesome graduation ceremony for our 14 new MITS graduates and their families.
- We also believe in rewarding our amazing staff. Some of the money you raised this Giving Season will provide holiday bonuses to our amazing Kenyan teaching staff who work faithfully year round.

END OF YEAR GIVING
DID YOU MISS GIVING TUESDAY? IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH END OF YEAR GIVING
GIVE NOW >>
Just because Giving Tuesday has come and gone doesn't mean you can't continue to support the work MITS does year round. Because we are a nonprofit organization that depends solely on the donations of individuals and organizations to make our budget work, End of Year Giving is a very important component to helping us make our financial goals. Here's four reasons why End of Year Giving matters to MITS >>
- Many charitable organizations like to get their new year started off with a bang - not with fireworks, but with new initiatives and programs in the first quarter of the next year. At MITS, we usually bring in new students from the streets to our boarding school program in the first quarter of each year and it's important that we have funding available to take care of them right from the start.
- End of year giving also helps to make up any shortfalls or obstacles that may have occurred throughout the year. Like many nonprofit ministries, MITS pays a lot of attention to budgeting and planning, but inevitably things come up throughout the year that can sometimes lead to unexpected expenses. Donations that come in at the end of year truly help to offset these unexpected expenses.
- The Christmas and New Year seasons are a great time to talk and teach your family about giving. This season has always been more about giving than receiving, yet the culture of commerce and consumerism works against the spirit of generosity - especially during this time of year. This is a great time to teach your children and grandchildren about generosity and the true “reason for the season.”
- On your tax returns, giving actually helps the giver! End of year giving to a charitable organization can create a great tax deduction that can be claimed on your next tax return. Since Made In The Streets is an approved 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, contributions made on or before December 31, 2018, can be claimed as a deduction on your 2018 tax return. Be sure and check with your tax professional for any additional questions or advice.

Our prayers and condolences go out to the family of long time MITS supporter and partner, Norman Bales. For many years, Norman partnered with Made In The Streets to love and care for street kids in Kenya. We are truly thankful for him and will miss him dearly.
