Dr. Shobhana Chelliah and Mary Burke Ph.D. student traveled to Berkley, California to visit the home archives of Dr. James Matisoff. Matisoff recently visited UNT as a guest speaker for the annual CoRSAL Linguistics conference last Fall. He as a collection of rare books and bibles which he is donating to the CoRSAL project and UNT. “The amount of materials Dr. Matisoff has accumulated over his career was impressive. What’s even more remarkable is that he had a fairly detailed system for organizing it all—by year, conference, topic, language family, or colleague. Transporting the materials, we made sure to keep them organized and, most importantly, safe,” says Burke. Chelliah confirmed Dr. Matisoff’s materials are in excellent condition and a welcomed contribution to the CoRSAL (Computation Resource for South Asian Languages) collection at the UNT Digital Library.
This January, Dr. Kinshuk reinstated the Staff Operations Committee, a college-wide, staff-only committee that serves to advise the Dean about issues related to college operations, policies, and procedures. This committee also provides the opportunity for staff as a whole to work with administrators on staff development, one of the initiatives that came out of November's faculty & staff meeting. The committee leadership team is comprised of:
Austin Hammond as Chairperson
Caley Barnhart as Vice-Chairperson
Trevor Sisk as Recorder
Stephen Lancaster as Parliamentarian
Janenne Pryce-Henry as Communications Coordinator
All regular staff members, as defined by UNT policy, are members of the Staff Operations Committee. We are excited to work with COI on the many opportunities to benefit our staff and the COI community.
