1. Work/Technology 2050 Pre-Publication Report
This may be the broadest, deepest, long-range set of global scenarios and actions to address the future work/tech issues so far. 93 actions were assessed by international panels who suggested an additional 118 actions. Nine internal RTDelphi studies were used to generate this report. This 150-page pre-publication report is so densely packed with useful information for people who are serious about doing something on the future of work, that we are now seeking new forms of layout and communications to make sure these ideas will get the proper attention they deserve.

2. State of the Future Award by APF
The State of the Future 19.0 was awarded the “2018 Most Significant Futures Work” by the Association of Professional Futurists. The difference between 19.0 and 19.1 is the addition of 30 pages of infographics for the 15 Global Challenges (two pages per Challenge).  You can download the full State of the Future 19.1 for just $29.95 at: http://www.millennium-project.org/state-of-the-future-version-19-1/  Translations In Spanish, Greek, and Italian are complete and will be available online soon. Arabic and Bulgarian translations are in process now.

3. Ambassadors to the Future
The university student "Ambassadors to the Future" are being initially selected by The Millennium Project Node chairs from around the world.  The university’s "Embassy to the Future" should seek a diverse membership with a political attaché from the school of government, science attaché from the department of science, a commercial attaché from the school of business, cultural attaché from the history or arts department  etc. Any university student can join. Once enough students are involved they can elect their ambassador and attachés. University “Embassies to the Future” might publish a Global Challenge infographic each week on their social media seeking key insights from the students, and have weekly coffee hours discussing future possibilities with future-oriented faculty and/or bring in futurists via video. They would have access to GFIS and other Millennium Project materials, post key insights on their social media sites, hold conferences, and create things we have never thought of. The first Ambassador to the Future is Nikola Medová, graduate student at Olomouc University selected by Professor Pavel Novacek, Chair of the Central European Node. If you are interested creating and "Embassy of the Future" program at your university, contact info@millennium-project.org

4. 2018 Annual Meeting held in Bolivia
This two-day Planning Committee Meeting of Millennium Project Node chairs and staff was sponsored and organized by Verónica Agreda, Chair of the Bolivian Node, and hosted by the Universidad Franz Tamayo and the development Agency of Spain. Accomplishments over the past year were reviewed and next priorities confirmed:

  • Develop and implement a promotion plan for the Work/Technology 2050 report
  • Encourage all Node Chairs to initiate at least one new project per year
  • Explore support for international study on anticipatory governance applied to the transition from artificial narrow intelligence to artificial general intelligence
  • Re-assess the variables included in the global State of the Future Index, including their best and worst values, and weights
  • Explore support for a feasibility study on the public’s role (families and communities) in reducing the threat of a single individual creating and deploying a weapon of mass destruction (SIMAD).

The meeting also accepted the idea of Node Chairs creating spin-off for profit activities and creating an international conference for an advanced assessment on the future of civilization and state-of-the-art of global futures research. The intensive meeting was followed by a public conference to share global futures issues and policies.

5. City and Regional Node Chairs
One of the conclusions of the 2018 Millennium Project Planning Committee Meeting was the creation of City or Regional Node Chairs in addition to National Node Chairs. The initial new city and regional Node chairs in Latin America are shown below:

6. World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) Partners with MP
November 5-6 WAAS and MP collaborated to produce a meeting on the future of governance held at the World Bank and have agreed to continue to partner on other activities. The World Academy of Art and Science is composed of 730 individual Fellows from diverse cultures, nationalities, and intellectual disciplines, chosen for eminence in art, the natural and social sciences, and the humanities. They will be invited to participate in MP studies and MP participants will be invited to future WAAS meetings. As a historical note, Bucky Fuller was as a WAAS Fellow and the late Harland Cleveland, former president of WAAS was the proof reader for the first MP feasibility report in 1993.

7. Millennium Project Interns in Washington, D.C.
Interns work on updating the Global Futures Intelligence System https://themp.org/, attend other think tank meetings, and explore their future careers in improving the future. We welcome Hayato Katsuki (Japan, post-MA work), Erin Flannery (US, Virginia Tech), Emir David Rakos (Turkey, American U.), Georg Armstrong (Austia & US, NE Univ), and Nadeen Black (Swiss & U.S, American U.), and part-time tele-Interns Daniela Bodek (Mexico) and Hannah Sörbom (Sweden)

8. The State of the Future 19.1 continues to get good reviews
The State of the Future 19.1 continues to get good reviews - most recently from Leopold P. Mureithi Professor of Economics at the University of Nairobi in the Journal of Futures Studies (Taiwan). He concludes:  "The State of the Future is lucidly written, making it comprehensible to a whole range of readership. Liberal with literature and references, one is prompted to read further. So, this book is useful to the academic types, policy makers, business strategists and others interested in human-interest issues."  Full translations in Arabic, Greek, Italian, and Spanish will be available soon, the Executive Summary is available in even more languages.

The Millennium Project is a global participatory think tank connecting 63 Nodes around the world that identify long-range challenges and strategies, and initiate and conduct foresight studies, workshops, symposiums, and advanced training. Its mission is to improve thinking about the future and make it available through a variety of media for feedback to accumulate wisdom about the future for better decisions today. It produces the State of the Future reports, the Futures Research Methodology series, the Global Futures Intelligence System (GFIS), and special studies. Over 4,500 futurists, scholars, business planners, and policy makers who work for international organizations, governments, corporations, NGOs, and universities have participated in The Millennium Project’s research, since its inception, in 1992 and founding in 1996. The Millennium Project was selected among the top ten think tanks in the world for new ideas and paradigms by the 2013 and 2014 University of Pennsylvania’s GoTo Think Tank Index, and 2012 Computerworld Honors Laureate for its contributions to collective intelligence systems.
