Family School

December 6 2018

Dear  Families,

This week Family School was all about Chanukah!  We talked about miracles big and small.  The children made candles, dreidels, crowns, applesauce and latkes.  As you arrived you found us singing and lighting the menorah with Rabbi Jonathan. It was an exciting, busy day!
Please plan on coming this FRIDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 7 @ 6 PM TO OUR MONTHLY FIRST FRIDAY POTLUCK SHABBAT DINNER.  IT IS PART OF THE FAMILY SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS AND  CURRICULUM.  STUDENT RABBI LILY WILL BE HERE.  TOT SHABBAT STARTS AT 5 PM THEN ROLLS RIGHT INTO DINNER.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9 IS OUR CONGREGATIONAL CHANUKAH PARTY 4-6 PM. PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING AND BRING YOUR MENORAH, LATKES, AND A DISH TO SHARE.  (CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO)

Hebrew is moving along nicely as you can see from the teacher emails. Studying/reviewing just 5 minutes per day which is the minimum asked and is a huge help in learning a new language.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

In tefilah we continue our journey of connecting with G-d. Each tefilah brings relationships closer within our Family School and with G-d. We were blessed this week to have 2 new students.  A beautiful journey as we continue to grow together spiritually as a community.

For snack we provide healthy choices of mini bagels, cream cheese, peanut butter and jelly. GF tortilla chips, veggies with dip, hummus and clementines or some other fruit and of course water. We appreciate donations towards snack as long as it is not junk food.  Yogurt, crackers, popcorn and any of the above can be dropped off on any day  and saved for the next week.

Just a few reminders:

  • If you have any concerns regarding our security practices please feel free to contact me. We do have our doors locked at all times.  All teachers and myself carry our cell phones at all times and we have an alarm system
  • Students are more than welcome to bring a water bottle to Family School.
  • Snow Days, if Saugerties School District is closed or if they cancel after school activities we are closed.  I will also send an email to confirm.
  • Please scroll down for the calendar.
  • If your child has a cell phone please tell them to turn it off during Family School.  If they have a problem they should speak with their teacher or me before they call home.
As I always say: We are committed to creating a warm, respectful and safe environment in which we can learn and grow together as a community.  The Family School is a place that gives life to the many values that we learn from the teachings of the Torah: kavod (respect), rachamim (compassion), and chesed (kindness).  We look forward to providing a loving, welcoming, enthusiastic environment in which Jewish children and their families from all backgrounds learn to practice Judaism in a meaningful and enlivening way, sparking curiosity and a love for learning.
