Educators Agree

Neuroscience is the perfect blend of STEM and the Life Sciences

As we tell our students all the time, real-world teams employ people of all sorts of backgrounds who work together to solve complex problems. But often, in education, STEM seems like it boils down to just Computer Science, Robotics, and Engineering...

Neuroscience is the perfect opportunity to show students how computer scientists, biologists, chemists, electrical engineers, roboticists (did I make that word up?), and more work together to better understand the brain, make biomedical devices the diagnose, treat, and cure illnesses, and create technologies that can assist people with different abilities!

We've spent the past two months travelling the country and demonstrating our tools and experiments to science educators. From middle-school to university, educators agree that Neuroscience is the perfect lens with which to teach ALL of STEM.

Your Reactions

It's no big secret that a scientist's twitter game is fire. Many educators take their discoveries to the web with tweets and mentions! Check out a few highlights below, and if you are interested, you can follow our Twitter!
Perhaps the quickest Demo to Classroom conversion ever - On the 4th, we demoed the Human-Human to the NW Noggin team. They bought one on the spot, and then on the 5th, they demoed it to hundreds of elementary schoolers! They came back on the 6th to ask for more electrodes. We eagerly stuffed their bags!

Your Tools

The battle against fake news, misleading pop-sci, and social misconception wages on. It is up to us to work together to bring real science to the people.

Backyard Brains develops high-concept, but low-cost DIY neuroscience tools which allow you to bring real electrophysiology experiments with you on outreach missions. Check out these powerful and affordable tools which you can use to bring DIY neuroscience to your classroom!
