Dear <<First Name>>,

As we approach the end of the calendar year, I would like to thank you for being part of our community. Through your support as a member, donor, or guest, we are able to bring history and ideas to life, and share them with people in Vancouver and around the world.

As valued guests, you inspire us to make the Roedde House Museum a destination for quality, accessible, and creative programming and we are grateful for your continuing support, generosity and enthusiasm.

I will share with you some key program highlights and hope they inspire you to show your passion for living history, culture, and education by making a donation on Giving Day.

School Programs

“Thank you for a truly fantastic field trip! This trip was so very rich in experiences and eye-opening for my eager students. They clearly have a deeper appreciation of historical changes - and it was all so local! We are still talking about it.” -Grade 4/5 Teacher, Vancouver

“All the teachers, students and parents were so impressed with the docents and their tours.  As for the box of artifacts, we loved that too.  The kids enjoyed guessing what the artifact was and we used them for writing stories. It was the best field trip ever!” – Grade 4/5 Teacher, Vancouver

In 2017, our award-winning school program hosted 878 students from 11 schools. Our team of 9 School Program docents guide our young guests through the Museum, providing valuable experiential education that focus on what life was like in the early years of Vancouver. This program allows students to learn about history in a unique setting where asking questions and touching artefacts are encouraged.

This Program is funded collaboratively with the McGrane Pearson Foundation and Roedde House Museum Preservation Society.

Exhibitions

In 2017, we launched our latest exhibition “The Travelling Tales of Tea “. This exhibition was developed by our volunteer Visiting Curators and Roedde House Museum staff. Our exhibition launch featured speakers from the local tea community and was free to the public. Our Exhibitions are entirely developed and funded in-house and give visitors an in-depth look into topics that align with the mission, values, and themes of the Roedde House Museum. Other notable exhibitions developed in-house include:

"A Sailor's Life for Me: Bill Roedde and the Story of the Carita"
"Practical Bookbinding: G.A. Roedde Ltd."*
"Stamps and Strokes in Saltwater City: Ho Sun Hing Printers"*
"Char'Coal' Harbour: Kanaka Ranch"
"Beau of the Ball: The Victorian Dandy"
*partially exhibited at UBC's Irving K Barber Library

We invite you to help us continue this program of sharing the stories of our arts, historical, and cultural community.

Count me in! I want to support Exhibitions
Readings at Roedde

“Reading at Roedde” is a literary series where writers, performers, and researchers share their work and perspectives in the intimacy of the museum’s parlour. This unique series of programming are developed with accessibility and sustainability in mind to ensure that this program can welcome a diversity of audiences to the museum.

In 2017, we welcomed Renee Buciarelli and Simon Webb for a dramatic reading of the correspondence between George Bernard-Shaw and actress Mrs. Patrick Campbell as well as graduate scholars Shannon Payne and Rebecca Sheppard for a panel on Victorian crime and literature. The speakers and topics are curated by museum staff and the events are hosted by our team of dedicated volunteers.
I want to donate to continue Readings!
Tea & Tour

In 2017, we welcomed 395 guests for our signature Sunday event – Tea & Tour. Many of you discovered the House for the first time through this unique experience where guests can explore the Museum and enjoy a cup of traditional tea and delicious cookies in an authentic Victorian setting using real vintage china. Our team of volunteer docents host visitors and as many of you know, share their uniquely individual knowledge of the House and Roedde family. No two tours are the same!

Without your support, our Tea & Tour programs would not exist – please help us continue this great Sunday tradition.
Put my donation towards Tea & Tour!
Some of our other great programs also included:
  • Strawberry Festival Open House & Bake Sale
  • West End Food Festival Free Workshops: Quick Pickles with Rick Havlak
  • Free Culture Days Programming: Barclay Heritage Square Walk with Pam McPhail & Camera Obscura Workshop with Peter Lowery
  • Roedde House Jazz Series
  • Roedde House Classical Series
You have already made a difference at the Roedde House Museum by continuing to inspire and support our work. Please help us make 2018 a great year with more enriching, creative, accessible, and quality programs.

Please consider donating to Roedde House Museum on Giving Day!

Sincerely,
