Wear Socks to Pack On Muscle Mass—wait, what?

We preach a lot about change to gain—doing different things in the gym to stimulate new hypertrophy.

We also hammer on Brad Schoenfeld, Ph.D.’s three hypertrophy triggers—mechanical tension, metabolic stress and muscle damage.

It’s obvious just from the names, that those trigger tension, stress, and damage within muscle tissue. 

But to get the maximum hypertrophy from all of that, you have to properly, sufficiently and “anabolicly” recover…

In other words, you have to heal to grow. Yes, that means getting enough protein—and right before bed is key, according to new research. (One type is best, as you’ll see in the “overnight” read-me page below)…

But you also have to sleep enough and sleep soundly. That’s when a lot of recovery occurs—not to mention anabolic hormone optimization. 

In fact, recent studies have shown a distinct drop in testosterone from lack of sleep, even in young men.

So what does wearing socks have to do with this? It can significantly improve your sleep so that you recover and grow like a boss—or maybe even Superman (LOL)…

Okay, you don’t have to wear that particular pair—just about any socks will do because…

According to the National Sleep Foundation, keeping your feet warm causes dilation of your blood vessels, which tells your brain it's bedtime.

Research has shown that the more vasodilation in the hands and feet, the less time it takes to fall asleep.

Better sleep means HIGHER muscle recovery and LOWER cortisol, the stress hormone that has been shown to cannibalize muscle tissue.

So rock a pair of socks at bedtime. It’s a muscle-growth double play—less catabolism and more anabolism.
