Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us when we call!

-Psalm 20:7-9

LUCKENSON, also known as "Luckey," is a very gentle and soft spoken young man. His sweet smile brightens up the Boy’s Home. Although he is quiet off the field, Luckey totally transforms on the soccer field, as he is extremely passionate about soccer and it shows. Besides playing soccer he enjoys putting together puzzles. Luckey is a wonderful helper to our staff and is always ready and willing to lend a hand. He is also a very good student, who consistently gets high marks in school. We know Luckenson’s sweet spirit will be used to minister greatly to others in the future. Please pray that the joy and peace that fill his heart will only grow in the years to come.

Luckenson is only at 40% of his needed monthly support. It is urgent that each child is 100% sponsored!  Will you help?  Now is the time to sponsor a child in need.  We hope to hear from you soon!

Creating Hope for Families in Haiti

This summer we launched our Family Hope program to address a major influence in the break-down of families in Haiti and around the world--poverty.

Many people suffer daily in Haiti.  Poverty forces families into making difficult decisions, and some parents feel that their child would have a better life in an orphanage. The heartbreaking reality is the majority of children in orphanages around the world, including Child Hope, have families. This creates tremendous psychological trauma for the child.  Each scenario is different.  Each family has their own crisis story.  As we strive to provide orphan care in a way that reduces the demand for future orphan care in Haiti, we are looking where safely possible, to reconcile and reunify the families of the children placed in our care by Haitian Social Services.  This is especially important as children "age out" of institutional care.

Since this summer we have been working with Haitian social workers and we were able to locate and supervise family visits for 22 of our 27 children.  The responses we have been getting--from both the children and their family--have been very positive! This past weekend, we invited families to participate in a family photo shoot.  For many of the families, these are the only photos that exist of them with their children.

In the coming months we are looking forward to sharing these photos as well as more stories of how God is working at Child Hope!

#givingtuesday Success!

On November 28, Giving Tuesday, we set the goal to raise $50,000 in a single day.  It seemed like a huge stretch, but we prayed and put our trust in a big God who can work miracles.  Well, God did do a mighty work that day and we raised $72,500 in gifts and pledges!!!  We are thrilled that we received 15% of our budget in just one day!  Thank you to all who supported us on Giving Tuesday!  You are making an impact on the lives of children in Haiti, and we are so thankful to have your support!

Year End Giving

The majority of our budget is raised in November and December.  To make sure you get tax benefits of your donations, Child Hope will be able to issue 2017 receipts based on the following schedule:

Board Meeting Recap

Over Veteran's Day weekend, the CHI board of directors (Jody, Angelo, Brooke, and me--Kamala) and our US director (Amanda) traveled to Haiti for our annual in-country board meeting. It was a tender time of recounting God's faithfulness to us this year and casting vision for the next season of Child Hope International. There was such a sweet and present spirit of unity and affection between us as we celebrated blessings and prepared for challenges. On my last night in Haiti, Spencer & Risa (our Haiti directors) and I gathered on their patio and in the cool breeze of a beautiful Caribbean night, we poured out our hearts to God and interceded for our kids. I am so grateful to have a God who hears our cries and is so able and willing to hear us. We've already seen God's favor on our ministry as 2017 winds down. We look forward to 2018 with great gratitude and humble expectation. Mèsi, Jezi, pou tout bagay! Thank you, Jesus, for everything!

Praise Report/Prayer Requests

  • BOUNTIFUL | God has been demonstrating to the Child Hope staff and board that he is a God of abundance, and we are so blessed by the people He has put in our path.  Thank you to all who have been a part of the Child Hope story over the years!
  • SCHOOL EXAMS | In December our children will be taking school exams.  We would appreciate prayers for the children that they would not have anxiety about their tests and that they would do their best on these exams.
  • NEW STAFF| We recently hired two new nannies for the Boys Home.  Please pray that they would continue to develop strong relationships with the children and be good role models for how to be a disciple of Christ.
