Event Details: The Supporting Educational Achievement for Minorities (SEAM) Project will be hosting a series of workshops for Spanish Speaking families this Fall. Workshops will focus on topics such as Special Education Law, Individual Education Plans, Least Restrictive Environments, and Transition. Please note that all workshops will be presented in Spanish only.

Self-Advocates & Direct Support Professionals Working in Partnership to Achieve Life’s Dreams
This training is designed for people with disabilities and their direct support professionals. Participants will learn about effective self-advocacy techniques and the role that Direct Support Professional’s play in assisting self-advocates in achieving their goals.This training offers 1.5 CEUs.

Target Audience: Direct Support Professionals, Home Help, Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and Para Professionals.

Cost: Free

Registration Information: To attend this webinar all participants must register. The deadline to register is 12/4/2017. Upon registering you will be asked to complete a brief training questionnaire.

Empowerment Education Training Series: Stress Management: It's All About Awareness, Attitude, and Action at Work

Event Details: 
This training is designed to help participants learn how to recognize and deal with workplace stress. Individuals attending the training will have the opportunity to understand what stress is, learn the difference between “good” and “bad” stress, identify causes of stress, develop awareness of the signs of stress within us, and identify ways to relieve stress. This training offers 1.5 CEUs.

Target Audience: Direct Support Professionals, Home Help, Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and Para Professionals.

Event Details:  This workshop explains what Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA) is, and how a FBA leads to the development of a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) that utilizes Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), and how to incorporate these items in the IEP process. The workshop also highlight areas of collaboration throughout the discipline processes for students with IEPs.

Event Details:  Sibshops are a recreation based support group just for brothers and sisters of children with special needs. Sibshops is not therapy but it can be therapeutic for some children. Sibshops acknowledges that being a brother or sister of a person with special needs is both rewarding and challenging. Sibshops strive to offer opportunities for sharing and connecting with peers who “get it”. The Sibshops model is a blend of information and discussion, mixed with entertaining, exciting, and unique recreational activities, snacks and lots of fun!

Target Audience: Brothers and sisters of children with special needs.

Cost: $6.00 per sibling (discounts given for multiple siblings)

His goal is to help others realize the positive impact that living a self-determined life can have. He works toward this goal by conducting training on self-determination throughout Southeast Michigan.

Are you a parent of a child 18 years-old or younger? Whether you have a toddler or a teen, the fall season brings thoughts of a new school year. What are your hopes and worries for your child? Please take RFK University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities' brief, 5-minute survey about your child’s health & wellbeing. Your identity and responses will remain private. You could win a $50 gift card, if you complete the survey by December 1, 2017. For every 20 participants, they will make a donation to the UNIDOS Disaster Relief Fund to Mexico and Puerto Rico.
