OHCHR Calls for Contributions to Report on Mechanisms for the Safety of Journalists

 
The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is requesting contributions to a new report focused "on the effectiveness of international and regional mechanisms for the protection, investigation and prosecution of attacks against journalists”. This report is a request by the ground-breaking Human Rights Council (HRC) resolution 33/2 on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity.

World Press Freedom Day 2018 Academic Conference: Call for Papers on the Safety of Journalists

 
For World Press Freedom Day 2018, UNESCO and the School of Information and Communication Studies at the University of Ghana are jointly organising a conference on 3 May 2018 on the Safety of Journalists, for which a call for papers has been published. Abstracts for both the Academic Conference and the Policy lab can be submitted until 15 February 2018.

The Digital Security Guide for Journalists in Myanmar was produced by Centre for Law and Democracy (CLD). The Guide is a simple, accessible tool to help journalists protect their communications and digital devices against hacking, surveillance and other forms of digital harassment. It was prepared by the Centre for Law and Democracy (CLD) in collaboration with International Media Support (IMS), FOJO Media Institute and the Myanmar Press Council (MPC).

Revealing Corruption Remains Challenge for Balkan Media


During 2017, BIRN conducted a regional study that examined how the media report on organised crime and corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia. Organised crime and corruption are among the key challenges facing the societies of the Western Balkans, with corruption in particular being a key grievance for ordinary citizens and voters. As in any democracy, the media play a crucial role when it comes to informing the public on these subjects and shaping public debates.
