Soil book author to speak in Clinton on December 13
Author of soil books to speak at Huron Soil and Crop Improvement Association Annual General Meeting
Huron Soil and Crop Annual General Meeting to take place at Libro Community Hall in Clinton, Ontario on Wednesday, December 13, 2017
The author of Growing a Revolution: Bringing Our Soil Back to Life, David R. Montgomery, is a guest speaker at the Huron County Soil and Crop Improvement Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
The AGM event takes place at Libro Community Hall in Clinton, Ontario at 239 Bill Fleming Drive.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Huron Soil and Crop business takes place at around 5:30 p.m. Dinner starts at about 6:30 p.m. Speakers present starting at about 7:15 p.m. The evening finishes at around 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 each. Continuing education unit (CEU) credits are available for participants. Ausable Bayfield Conservation staff and volunteers were pleased to have the chance to talk with people like you at the 100th International Plowing Match IPM and Rural Expo in Walton, Huron County, Ontario, Canada from September 19-23, 2017. We would like to thank all volunteers and all the landowners who visited the tent. We would also like to thank the staff of Maitland Conservation, hosts of the conservation authorities tent, for the amazing job they did. We were pleased to partner with you at the tent. Thanks go to Maitland Conservation staff for the amazing Huron County Clean Water Project display in the tent as well.

People who took the time to stop in found out about windbreaks; buffers; and more. They enjoyed the fun photo station; the magical Mystery Faucet magic floating tap; the real live stream in the tent; the critters-in-the-water Stream Life station about invertebrates; the painting station; the cover crops station and - of course - the amazing Augmented Reality (AR) Digital Sandbox!

The Healthy Lake Huron: Clean Water, Clean Beaches Partnership is now providing regular news updates digitally. The Conservation Dinner Committee has selected Larry Taylor and Jim Beckett as Co-Chairs of the 2018 gala charitable auction event to be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018. The two volunteers said they were honoured to be chosen.

The ABCA has four levels for flood messages:
- Normal – No flood conditions currently exist
- Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook / Water Safety: General watershed conditions are being assessed for high runoff potential that could lead to flooding, and to remind the public of general river safety issues.
- Flood Watch: Flooding is possible in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should prepare.
- Flood Warning: Flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities and individuals should take action to deal with flood conditions. This may include road closures and evacuations.

About 200 people called for owls, learned about these nighttime creatures; Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation sponsored; Conservation Halton brought live owls
About 200 people attended the popular annual Owl Prowl on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Morrison Dam Conservation Area east of Exeter.
Those who took part met live owls brought in from Conservation Halton’s Mountsberg Raptor Centre. Most of the people on the night hike also saw or heard local owls, such as Eastern Screech Owls, in their natural habitat, in the woods at the conservation area. People came from as far away as Dundas and Port Elgin for the event.
There were two 90-minute sessions held with a talk about owls and a night hike ‘hoot.’ Ausable Bayfield Conservation educators provided short talks about these amazing nighttime animals. Many of those who took part dissected pellets and had their picture taken with Otis the Owl (a human-sized costumed owl). Many took part in night hikes, with the educators, to call in and look for owls that live in Morrison Dam Conservation Area.
