Holiday Lights Going Up Today and Tomorrow

Thanks to all residents who donated for our annual Fall fundraising campaign (and those who are still planning to) for making the holiday lights possible and a special thanks to our Treasurer Jack H for coordinating with Sav-a-Tree. The lights are going up today and tomorrow.

As a reminder, the City won't let us leave them up year round (hurts the trees), which is why we must take them down in February. But we get to enjoy them through all the dark winter nights.

There is still plenty of time and reason to make a donation. We'll need money next year to pay for bringing the lights down (usually around $2000), as well as flowers for the tree beds ($750) and 3 travel scholarships for HSES (at $500 apiece). Either drop off a check made payable to "The West 55th Street Block Association" with the doorman at 340 West 55 or make a donation through PayPal at our website: west55ba.org. (Click on the yellow Donate button in the lower left on the homepage.) Thanks for helping make this such a terrific neighborhood!

Photos From the Halloween Pet Parade

Thanks to Jen and Mitch for organizing the Halloween Pet Parade. And thanks to Carol S. for taking photos of our four-legged friends (and a few two-legged ones) in costume. Carol has uploaded 35 photos to this DropBox folder, where you can download them.

Traffic Survey

Our neighbors at Alvin Ailey wanted to reach out to see what we think of the traffic flow in front of their building since the new extension opened up. (There's occasional double-parking when parents leave kids off for classes or pick them up). The Block Association has heard no complaints and Alvin Ailey is happy to leave things as they are. But they wanted to check with us. The only alternative would be to create a designated unloading zone, but that would take parking spots away from the neighborhood.

So, unless I hear otherwise, I'll tell Alvin Ailey that we're fine with how things are with occasional double parking. But if you have an problem with the status quo, please email the Block Association at west55ba[AT]gmail.com and I will pass it on to Alvin Ailey. Thanks.
