If you still haven't found the gift for that "hard to buy for" person in your life, this video is great and it is not too late.
A fascinating story of Major James MacFarlane who singlehandedly surveyed the route and whose persistance got the road built. What makes the story so interesting is Major MacFarlane was a real character. He was bascally a drunken Irishman whose friends and family thought was crazy for attempting something everyone said was impossible. The film is a blend of actual archive material along with re-enactment by dozens of actors. It features many island locations and takes the viewer from the early 1900s to the present. Produced by DVMedia and The Mill Bay/Malahat Historical Society.
