- Looking for a way to get to all of these events?  We are excited to announce that TBTA is setting up a special trolley to run through the downtown on Saturday! Rides will be FREE all day-- and there will be special giveaways for those that ride. Click the image below for full schedule and route.

- Welcome to downtown, My Front Porch Decor by Tathia! Downtown's newest store features hand painted signs, decor, and gifts. Located next to the Center Building (where Music & More used to be). Visit the store on facebook for hours and more information.

- Thank you to all who came and supported our first ever Plays in the Park event! Even though we had to hold the performance inside due to inclement weather, we had over 100 attendees enjoy a free performance of Hamlet at Thunder Bay Theatre. Stay tuned for details about future productions-- we plan on holding a free performance outdoors this spring.

From the director's desk...

Thanksgiving may not be here yet, but walking through downtown, it sure looks like the holiday season has already, silently, arrived. Christmas decorations up, lights on, tree delivered, holiday merchandise out, events planned.

I often get the question: how can I be more involved in the downtown? Or, how can I contribute to the positive momentum downtown? My answer is usually simple: come downtown. Support our businesses. Shop at our stores. Drink local. Eat at our restaurants and eateries. Come to performances, to events.

This holiday season, I challenge you to try Alpena first. Before ordering online, before planning a shopping weekend downtown, I challenge you spend a day, an afternoon, in our downtown first and see what you can find for all of those on your list. Between our clothing, shoe, jewelry, book, home, and Michigan-made stores, you may be surprised what you can find. Visit our local art galleries for prints, pottery, and other pieces of art that are sure to be unique. Or, give the gift of taking a friend out to dinner at one of our restaurants or to see a performance or movie at our theaters.

As our friends at Thunder Bay Theatre say to their audience: thanks for being here-- without an audience, we would always be in dress rehearsal. Thanks for shopping, for eating, for drinking, for visiting, for photographing, for supporting our downtown. Without you, we would just be a showroom and some abandoned streets.

See you soon,

Anne Gentry
