One Kid One Bike Activities

We've come so far in 2017! Back when JAMSQUAD was just a gleam in our collective eyes, we hoped to provide just ten kids with refurbished bikes in 2015. Since those earliest days we've gradually been able to set our sights a little higher. This year we were shooting for 175 bikes. Now here it is, not even December, and we've already hit our goal!

We have a lot to be thankful for, but right now so much gratitude goes to all the folks who helped us get this far: Those who hung on to their old bikes and then brought them to us; our friends at Bike Doctor for storing them and offering help with parts; those who loaded up their cars and spent afternoons hauling loads of bikes to our workshop; the shop volunteers who gave up their evenings and weekends to get everything ready to roll; and everyone who helped coordinate dropoffs with our kids. THANK YOU! And the children of Baltimore and Harford County thank you, too. Let's keep it rolling for the rest of the year!

JAMSQUAD trailer

Honk if You Love Bikes

The newest addition to the JAMSQUAD family got a little makeover recently...What was once just a trailer is now glammed out with a gorgeous new wrap job. The next time you're at Bike Doc Bel Air or a local cross race, keep an eye out for it! And if you see one of us towing this guy around town, give us a honk and say hello.

Big thanks go out to Absolute Perfection Vehicle Wrapping for giving us a great deal on this work and doing a beautiful job. Learn more about them in this month's Supporter Spotlight.

Thirsty Thursday is Happening Again!

Our next Thirsty Thursday at Independent Brewing Company will take place on December 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Come join other JAMSQUAD volunteers for some delicious local brews and mingling, and trade your racing and bike-repair war stories with new friends!

Cycling Team Updates

November race photos
(1 and 2) Eric Schmitt, Matt Buckleman and Mark Kitz score podium positions at Ed Sander Memorial; (3) Ron Hermann shows off his silver medal; (4) Aidan Hermann shelters on podium at Troegenator.
It's been another month of strong performances by the JAMSQUAD cycling team! In fact, we've held podiums or top ten finishes in almost every race we've participated in this November:
  • Ron Hermann spent a lot of time on podiums this month, coming in 3rd in his class at Swashbuckler CX on November 4th, Stoudt's Cross on the 5th, Victory Cross on the 12th, and Troegenator Cross on the 18th. Lucky number 3! Ron went on to claim the silver medal at the MABRA CX Championships just this past weekend.
  • On November 4th, Mary Beth Cochran placed 2nd in the Women's Masters 50+ at Fair Hill CX and 5th in the Women's Open Cat 1/2/3 at Victory Cross on November 12th.
  • JAMSQUAD killed it at Ed Sander Memorial CX on November 5th, with Matt Buckleman and Mark Kitz at 4th and 5th, respectively, in the Men's Cat 1/2/3 Masters, and Eric Schmitt winning in the Men's 1/2/3/4 Masters 50+.
  • Matt Buckleman finished 5th in the Men's Masters 35+ at Fair Hill and podiumed at 3rd in the Men's Master 35+ at the West Chester Cross Classic #2 on November 19th.
  • Aidan Hermann continues to work hard in the Men's Juniors 10-14 class, with a podium finish at 3rd at Troegenator Cross.
Thank you, racers, for continuing to train hard and show well for JAMSQUAD. Seems like we're onto something with this cross thing.
Jeremy and bike

Donee Spotlight

We love our volunteers so much, but this month wanted to introduce you to someone who has actually received a JAMSQUAD bike! While 95% of our mission is focused on getting bikes into the hands of children, from time to time we are able to share the love with local adults as well. We were so glad to be able to pass our our 400th refurbished bike to Jeremy, who will be using it to get himself to and from work. We connected with Jeremy through the SUCCESS Project of the Havre de Grace Housing Authority, which works to help people achieve economic independence. We hope this helps Jeremy on his way and that he's as excited as we are about this bike!

Supporter Spotlight

If you saw the photos above or have been by Bike Doc lately, you've seen their work. This month we'd like to thank Absolute Perfection Window Tinting & Graphics for helping us out with our beautiful trailer wrap! They do fantastic stuff and we very much appreciate their support. Absolute Perfection is just down the road in Sykesville. If you're looking for tinting, a color change for your car, or any type of driveable advertising, we highly recommend you pay them a visit! Take a look at their website to get more details...and feel free to inspect the graphics on our fancy, made-over trailer -- it's a rolling portfolio piece! Thanks, AP!
