Seasons Greetings from the Committee of Management and Staff at NML.
We look forward to continue to work with you in 2018 to further build the leadership capacity of our region.
Program News
The Graduation Ceremony was held for the 2017 program in November and what a great night it was.  The Graduation Committee had put in a lot of work to ensure that everything went smoothly and our MC’s made sure that things ran on time.  It was a wonderful celebration of a year full of learning, friendships, challenge and commitment.  I particularly enjoyed the touching tribute that the group made.
Guest Speaker Adam Moedt, from the Western Bulldogs Community Leadership Foundation, highlighted the important work that they do in the western part of the state.  Activities that support youth leadership, youth engagement and community development are central to their work and the growth in the number of these programs are a testament to their success.
The Yearbook was launched as well and the committee are to be congratulated on an exceptional result.  This year’s edition is a colourful record of the 2017 program and the exciting journey that participants took part in.
Recruitment is nearly done for 2018 and at this stage we look like having around 20 participants for next year’s program.  It is certainly a high quality field that have applied and I am sure that they will work hard to make sure that each and everyone of them has a great year, feels supported and learns lots.
As this is my last contribution to the NML as Program Manager I would like to thank the Committee of Management for the faith they have shown in me over the last three programs and particularly Rebecca Wells for her constant support.
I would also like to thank the three groups of participants who I have worked with.  You guys have each made the program special for me in some small way.  I have learnt lots from you and really value the relationships that you have developed over the time you spent together. I wish you all well on your leadership journeys.
Jenny and Paula have been great to work with and have both added so much to Northern Mallee Leaders that the organisation can only continue to grow with the support of a strong alumni and good governance.
I look forward to whatever comes now and wish you all the best for the coming festive season.

Rod.
Thanks to Ric and Shiva for the great photography throughout the year!
From Our Executive Officer
“Your narrative is a powerful way to evoke leadership”

As we draw 2017 to a close it’s a great time to reflect on ‘the year that was’ at NML.
Undoubtedly our Northern Mallee Leaders Program was exceptional with all indicators showing an extremely high satisfaction rate from participants and very positive feedback from their corporate and community sponsors. Well done to Program Manager Rod Robinson who was sincerely farewelled with great accolades at the Graduation evening.

NML mission is to develop people in active business and community leadership roles. Our strategy is to create a more sustainable organisation through an active Alumni, good governance, valuable partnerships and productive stakeholder relations. We aim to do this through a number of initiatives such as expanding our products and services to best meet the demands and needs of our dynamic region. We need to ensure the capacity and capability of our most important resource – our people is well and truly ready to match the changing environment, challenges and opportunities of the moment in order to grow our community both socially and economically.

For 2018, we are already developing a range of workshops, programs and events including fantastic and inspiring speakers for our region and especially for our Alumni cohort of over 140 graduates of the NMLP. Look for updates at www.nml.org.au

NML welcomes two staff members to our team in 2018 - a Program Manager and Business Support Officer. Our Committee of Management will be under new leadership and include an additional sub-committee for Fundraising and Sponsorship.  Our ties with VRCLP will be vital as we advocate for a government funding support beyond 2019.

As the peak provider of leadership development for our region, we invite all ideas and options on how NML best meets the leadership aspirations and needs of the region. If you haven’t figured out how to fully develop prospective leaders in your organisation, business or industry then let us work with you on how to develop and engage your people together!

NML invites community members to take steps along your personal and professional journey with a guiding hand from us in 2018. We wish all our supporters, especially our graduates a safe and happy Christmas and holiday season.
Alumni News
The NML Alumni network has been very active throughout 2017.  We have had a full calendar of events including breakfasts, webinars, workshops and social gatherings with over 40% of active engagement from Alumni.
It has been great to see Alumni stepping up to take on roles and opportunities to contribute throughout the community on Boards and Committees including Victorian Water Board positions (Congrats to Michelle Oates), the AICD Scholarship Program (Congrats to Rebecca Wells) and many more.

There have also been strong contributions within the NML organisation with Alumni representation on the Committee of Management (Jackie Heaysman and Aleesha Davis), Alumni Committee (Scott Barnes, Narelle Tomlinson, Ross Taylor, Kellie Coff, Jamie Duffy, Elvira Mazza and Amy Nash), program presenters and mentors.  Thank you to all those who continue to support, promote and advocate for NML.
We warmly welcome the 2017 graduates to our network.  We now have 142 skilled and enthusiastic Alumni looking to make our communities better and stronger.

I look forward to continue working with the Alumni Committee, Jenny, the Committee of Management and new program manager to further build the Alumni network throughout 2018. Some possibilities for next year include working with Mildura Young Professionals Network on shared events, collaborating with Mallee Regional Partnerships, advocating for future funding for our program, celebrating 10 years since the 2008 group took part in NMLP and assisting with program events such as the Leadership Lunch.

I would like to acknowledge Rebecca and Rod for their enormous dedication and contribution to NML in their respective roles.  On behalf of the Alumni - I thank you and look forward to keeping you both actively involved in the NML Alumni network.
NML acknowledges and thanks our major sponsors...
And thanks to our program supporters...
