STUDY HARD, START NOW!
#READi2017
READi (Research and Education in Accessibility, Design, and Innovation) Launch and Symposium happened yesterday at Carleton, providing inspiring and thought provoking keynotes from many including the Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities @kenthehr. This NSERC funded training program is a first for the nation, and is in partnership U Ottawa and Queens. Congrats to Dr Adrian Chan and his incredible team of leaders from the three institutes. Good luck to those exceptional students awarded the opportunity to learn how to make the world more accessible. Interested in READi as a student, mentor, contributor, or collabrator see the website here.
Last month your CU-WISE team members were certified in CUSA's sexual assault prevention and support training program, OurTurn.

Meet the Team
Gabrielle - Virtual Communities Officer:  I am currently in the first year of my Masters of Applied Science, Aerospace Engineering. I have a Bachelor of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering from right here at Carleton University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from USQ in Australia. My love of anything to do with Space is the challenge of the unknown. We still know very little about Space and, yet it has been the source of some of our greatest discoveries and innovations. The fact that something can be both incredibly complex and beautifully simplistic keeps the research exciting and interesting. In my spare time, I am the Systems lead of Carleton’s Blackbird UAV team (unmanned aerial vehicle). Our team designs and builds UAVs to accomplish goals set out by Unmanned Systems Canada for their annual national competition. The systems team in particular is responsible for all flight systems, payload systems, and ground control. As of now, I am still currently unsure of what I will do after graduation, but I am looking forward to finding out.
Leading Ladies - Alumni Edition
You may hear whispers of her name around any and everything engineering! We are stoked to present to you Carleton Alumnae Jasmine. Graduated from CU in 2016 with a Biomedical-Mechanical Engineering degree, Jasmine is currently working as a Systems & Integration Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems - Canada on the Maritime Helicopter Project, where she designs, integrates, and tests software for the next generation fleet of Canadian Helicopters. How cool! "Working and studying as a woman in engineering has taught me to be resilient; when I see a problem, I don’t stop until I’ve solved it - even if people along the way don’t think I can do it". And, boy are we excited to potentially have her back as she aspires to start her Master’s degree in Applied Science next year back here at Carleton!
