The Service Design UK Chapter Meet Up on Nov 30 will give you a chance to hear from Service Design giants from Lloyds, the Co-op and more. Drink wine, network and win champers (if you're lucky). The aim of the session is to create a forum for members and the wider Service Design community to present ideas, hear from influential and inspirational speakers and provide an excuse to catch up with practitioners, academics and students, over a free glass of wine. The SDN UK team pushed the boat out and gathered speakers to excite, delight and inspire you.

With an iterative and practice-led approach, Cat Drew takes a look at measuring the impact of service design in this article of the latest Touchpoint issue. In a world of public sector management, metrics have always been tricky and social outcomes take a long time to be realised. It is often difficult to isolate a specific intervention from changing elements or innovations surrounding it. There is a growing recognition that services are never fully designed and need constant evaluation to evolve and improve. Impact measurement needs to reflect this.

In this interview Joe Macleod points to the strength of Service Design as a way to encourage holistic thinking in organisations. He argues that we tend to focus on the on-boarding, and usage period instead of looking at the whole customer lifecycle. This has left many services with poor long term strategies and results in decades of denial in endings. If we considered the off-boarding more seriously, then we would also respect customers' emotions around endings and in turn learn so much about their reasons for going. And maybe finding better ways of keeping them.
