Hi All
We had another super day on Saturday with the last three class Nativity Plays. We are so proud of all our children and grateful to all the parents who brought eats for after the play. They were delicious and so welcome. To the staff, Aunty Rose, Herbie and Aunty Linda, a huge thank you and well done for a great day and all your hard work in getting the children ready.

We are collecting good used toys for “TOYS FOR HAPPINESS’ again this year.
Thank you for the items that have been brought into the office!!!!
If you are doing a clean out and have any toys please bring them to the office. They are refurbished, and cleaned and given to many underprivileged children around Cape Town.

A reminder that we break up on Wednesday 6th December, normal school time (not early)
Our Staff Christmas party is on Friday 8th December and we ask if all the children in holiday care can be fetched at 12.30pm on Friday the 8 Dec so that the full staff can attend our Christmas party. Much appreciated.
Stay and Play(holiday care) closes for the year on Friday 15th December.

NATIVITY PLAYS
A DVD had been taken of each concert. If you would like to order one, please return your DVD envelope you will find in your child’s message pocket with the R50 to the office.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our Christmas party with the children is on the last day of school, Wednesday 6th Dec, when Father Christmas arrives with presents for all the children. This is a secret and we ask that you do not tell the children please!
If each family can provide a gift for their child to the value of R60, wrapped, marked with their child’s name and SECRETLY HAND IT IN TO THE OFFICE, BY WEDNESDAY 29TH NOVEMBER, so that Father Christmas has a gift for your child at the Christmas party.

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.
FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.
WANTED
WE NEED NEWSPAPER PLEASE!!!!
Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

It is hard to believe we only have 8 days left of school. Break up day is on Wednesday 6 December. Thank you so much for attending the Nativity and Graduation on Saturday. Merle and I were very proud of the children they really did so well. Being up there on the stage is daunting for them, so well done to all of them.  Thank you to everyone who has already sent in donations and food for our class party.
The next important event is Santa's visit on break up day, Wed 6 December.  Parents need to buy, wrap and clearly label with their child's name and surname a present to the value of R60. This is a surprise so please do not send the gift with your child to school. Presents need to be handed in at the office or given to a staff member. We are all aware of it so we just take them and put them in the office. I suggest you put the gift in a plastic packet and seal it. As presents come in we tick them off against your child's name. I know there are a few children who do not celebrate Christmas and do not give presents. Some of these parents have chosen to make Tuesday 5 Dec the last day of school but they have let me know about this and I have already ticked off their child's name.
We have been doing Grade R maths and language worksheets and the children have loved them. We prefer to do creative and expressive activities but use worksheets as an assessment tool. We will send their Christmas book home and their work from the year on Friday.
At this time of the year the children get very excited about Christmas and the holidays but also anxious about leaving our school. Many of the children keep coming to Merle and I and giving us hugs and telling us they are going to miss us. We have been discussing going to a new school, what to expect and how to cope with change. We have found routine and keeping to it so important as it helps to keep the children secure. This week we will continue to stick to our daily programme and in lessons recap maths and language concepts we have learned throughout the year. Last week we did three legged races and the children had so much fun.
The holidays are looming and its always wonderful not to have to do the early morning rush to get to school but the children get bored so keep them busy. I urge you to keep to a routine during the holidays as children need sleep and too many late nights make them tired and miserable.
Play board games. Let them cut out pictures from magazines or shopping brochures. Wordsearch is great fun. Get a book and write down the page numbers and write down words that can be found on each page. They have to look for the word. They are loving doing sums so let them make up and do basic sums eg 1+2=. Continue to practice the following skills: tying a shoe lace, writing their name and surname, know date of birth and address. In our movement lessons we will continue to practice skipping with a rope. You can also extend the maths theme by skip counting, doubling numbers or making up sums for them eg I bought 2 apples and 3 oranges. How much fruit did I buy? Did you add or subtract?
Please remember to put sun-cream on your children and to send them to school with caps or hats.
IMPORTANT DATES
Mon Dec 4: Reports will be handed out.
Wed Dec 6: School closes for the year. Father Christmas Visits us.
Thank you for all your support throughout the year.
Love
Dee and Merle.

Thank you to all the parents and families who came to watch the Starfish Nativity on Saturday.  I was so proud of each and every Starfish child who spoke and sang with such enthusiasm and happiness.  It is so lovely to see how they have grown in confidence this year.  Well done, Starfish class xxx
Please remember our Christmas class party tomorrow 28 November.  No snack is needed as there will be plenty to eat.  Perhaps just their own juice in case they don't like the party juice.  Children may dress up as something Christmassy or green/red with a Christmas hat

On Wednesday 6th December, our last day of school we have a surprise visit from Father Christmas.  Please can each parent bring a gift to school to the value of R60, wrapped and marked with your child's name and class to Jane in the office by Wednesday 29th November.  Please do not let your child see you bringing the present.  Keep this a secret.  Thank you!
