Creative Arts at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco
Hello and Happy Thanksgiving from the Creative Arts Team at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco! Creative expression and play are instrumental in our approach to healing and supporting families. Please enjoy these stories of creativity from the children at UCSF, and if you can't see the pictures click on "View this email in your browser" at the top of the email!
TV Studio
The Variety Show celebrates the art of storytelling! Check out our special edition featuring a group story built by patients. Watch the show! The story unfolded room by room as each kid added to the tale. The final story was read live on the Variety Show and everyone was excited to find out what happened to the hero, Fluffy the Dog. Illustrations were made by patients and siblings in the school room! Plus, Radio Kaleidoscope has launched with evening music and song requests!
Music Therapy
On November 7th, we were so excited and honored to host a visit from Alicia Keys! She participated in a Q&A session, sang "Girl on Fire" with our patients and families, and performed "No One" on keyboard. To top it off, she was accompanied by our very own music therapist, Matt Logan. Her amazing performance and interaction brought our families and patients to tears. We are still talking about her incredible singing and bedside visits. Check out some pictures from the event on the UCSF Facebook page!
Art Therapy
Art Therapy has been very busy with events these last few months! BCH kids displayed their artwork in the windows of Neiman Marcus; 16 large prints of patient artwork filling two large windows. Check out the article and art galleries featuring BCH artists!
We also participated in SF Open Art Studio’s with a week-long display of patient artwork in the lobby of the BCH. Below is one of our regular artists, a patient’s sibling who attends many of the art therapy groups at the hospital. He’s pointing out his artwork in the SF Open Art Studio’s Show :)
