Hello from Screwnomics!

Dear friend,

Welcome to my first monthly update on Screwnomics, my forthcoming book. I intend it to support a revolution already begun by you! No, not a war this time—but a series of small turns by many, many women (and the men who love them) newly re-examining the link between economics and gender in a more personal way. I’ve included here, in case you missed them, some recent blog posts.

I’m excited about how easy-to-read the newly designed pages from She Writes Press look. It’s also thrilling to see positive early reader reviews from economic women I so admire, like Riane Eisler and Hazel Henderson. But I confess I’m also scared as the publishing date in early April grows closer. What if I throw a party and nobody comes?

So my young social media wizard, Doni Hoffman, has helped me build a new web-page, www.screwnomics.org, which we’ll expand in future to invite your responses and stories. Check it out, and help me get the word out to more women by liking it, or tweeting it to your friends. Invite them to sign up, so they can get updates, too.

If you like Facebook, I’d appreciate you inviting your friends to like our new Screwnomics Facebook page, also. It’s full of little gems. On Facebook you’ll find Screwnomics RockStars to inspire you, and Sunday cartoons from my dear collaborator, Peaco Todd, to prompt your smile. I’m told page-likes are just as important as post-likes—who knew?—so inviting your friends to like Screwnomics’ Facebook page will really help me. There’s power in numbers—also connection and support. Already we’re at 242, but I’ll look forward to meeting  your friends and report our growing numbers next time.

I’ll also update you then on EconoGirlfriend groups I’m planning here in Vermont come March. Intended to make economics friendlier, such groups for the first 20 women who organize them will get free advance reader copies, a workbook I’m developing, and a personal visit. Be the first on your block!

File that thought away for now, and I’ll tell you more details next time. Now is for enjoying the holiday gatherings this month promises. Just when nights grow longer and darker and colder, it’s then that our human spirit insists on celebrating with people we love. Despite scary times, this comes with my warmest wishes for your renewal and a season of hope

your friend, Rickey

#MeToo Adds Up to Economic Robbery

Last week, as we heard woman after woman tell her tale of sexual harassment, of her reduction to a sexual commodity, I kept thinking: the media tells us about the huge settlements that big corporations pay... But what about the economic cost to all us women? Keep Reading
