Celebrating Culture

Several years ago we were able to visit the city of Goroka for their annual cultural show.  People from about 50 different language communities displayed their unique cultural dress and presented their unique traditional dances. We were especially taken with the costumes the individuals pictured below were wearing. The young lady is wearing a headdress with stuffed birds of paradise, a pig tooth necklace, and the fur of a cuscus (like a possum). The two men in the middle have bird of paradise and cockatiel feathers in their headdresses and other decorations made from sea shells. The people in the bottom photo are either covered in green moss and ferns or completely covered in sticky burrs to look like a furry bear.
These outfits are costly.  How much more valuable are the souls of each one of these men and women, young and old, that God would send His Son as the perfect offering, to die on a cross and be raised to life again, to provide a way for their rescue from sin.  Each one of us is given the opportunity to receive this gift of God, to be rescued from our sin and be adorned with beauty and wealth even greater than that pictured above, freedom from our sin, righteousness (right-ness with God) and even eternity enjoying God.  Does it sound too good to be true? Write me if you would like to know more.  -Christopher
