Structurae's New Literature Section

Structurae has always had a literature index but it's been mostly invisible for the last five years. With the launch of the repository for digital publications in September it became available again and this month the section was finally completed! At the moment the index contains over 65.000 publications and is fully searchable. The goal for the future is to increase the size of the index significantly and also add many more publications to the repository.

I would also like to point to some upcoming conferences which I plan to attend myself next year.

Best regards,
Nicolas Janberg

The Literature Index

First and foremost, the Structurae literature database is an index of publications including books, conference papers, and articles from journals, magazines or newspapers dealing with civil/structural engineering, construction and architecture. The index offers all the necessary bibliographic data to find the reference in a nearby library and where possible an online source is provided e.g. by linking directly to the publisher or indirectly via DOI, or by offering a possibility to purchase a book via Amazon. More than 65.000 publications can be browsed by:

Wherever fitting, the publications refer to structures or structure types, persons, companies, or geographic locations which are described therein.

A special function limiting searches to articles from a single journal is only available to users of "My Structurae", which is available free of charge.

The New Repository

The most important feature of the new literature section is the repository for digital publications. It was launched in September with the online publication of the proceedings for the Footbridge 2017 conference held in Berlin. The goal of the repository is to include especially those publications which are difficult to find through other sources, especially conference proceedings from independent organizers.

Publications in the repository are available in full text via our "My Structurae" service which is entirely free of charge.

Proceedings for Footbridge 2017

All the papers that were presented at the Footbridge 2017 conference last September have been added to the index, and DOIs were registered with Crossref. The full papers will become available on 6 March 2018 for download. The papers will then be accessible free of charge through "My Structurae".

Upcoming Conferences

Structurae recommends the following conferences coming up in 2018:

Fourth International Conference on Structural Engineering Education Without Borders

20-22 June 2018, Madrid, Spain

The skills required by structural engineers in the past were well defined and remained mainly within the technical domain, but the situation has now changed. Modern structural engineers must be creative, communicative, and able to work with others in an international setting. Thus a new type of education is needed. This conference will examine how the training has changed to face these new challenges.

The Call for Abstracts runs until 17 December 2017!

VII Congreso de ACHE
The Sixth International Congress on Construction History will be held from 9-13 July 2018 in Brussels, Belgium, and promises to be another highlight for the construction history community! More information available at 6icch.org

"Creativity in Structural Design" - Annual Symposium of the IASS

To be held 16-20 July 2018 at the MIT in Boston, Massachusetts. The Call for Abstracts runs until 15 Januar 2018!
