Stay tuned for an information session on Alberta OHS and WCB coming in the new year.
The Government confirmed that Alberta Infrastructure and AB Transportation procurements will reflect the change beginning in January 2018, namely:

AI and AT will require proponents to engage apprentices on all construction contracts valued over $15M or longer than 2 years
  • A minimum of one registered apprentice on the project and an additional registered apprentice for each sub-contract valued at $500,000 or more
  • Apprentices in each case will be engaged for the duration the trade is required
  • Hours for each apprentice and qualitative reporting through Apprenticeship and industry Training
  • Proponents will draft and include their own Apprenticeship Plan as part of their bid, identifying actions to :
    • recruit and retain apprentices,
    • maintain high quality training,
    • motivate their apprentices to complete their apprenticeship,
    • encourage applications from under-represented groups,
    • identify training methods to educate apprentices in a broad scope of the trade
