"Same As It Ever Was:" Relative Timing

Some things just never seem to change, huh?  Or do they... Some MAJOR blasts from the past moments with Tiger Woods this past weekend:

- The power.  Not just the ball-speed hovering around 180 mph with the driver - but the awesome long iron and fairway metal missiles launched with such height & precision.

- The aura.  Did you not notice the 'glowing' colors around him?  The energy?  The mojo.  The genius magician back on his stage.

- The wand (I told you, he's a magician...).  Sure, a few whiffs with distance control now and again, but that rock-solid short putting stroke was classic Woods.  You know: if your life was on the line, and somebody on the planet had to make a 4-footer to save it - who would you pick?  Yep, the guy in the Sunday red-flavored polo above.

Like that top on Tiger?  Me too; want something other, colorway-wise, style or fit? Click on Eldrick and find something for a loved one (it's OK to 'love yourself,' boys & girls - especially after you hit a less-than-perfect shot on the golf course) this holiday season...

Relative Timing

Well, me thinks the timing is NOW for you to click on the yellow CD just above, turn your device's volume UP - and watch and listen to the Talking Heads (starring David Byrne) and the vintage tune, "Once In A Lifetime."

From an '80' new wave band, to the venerable Dr. Bob Christina (friend, mentor and occasional unbeatable partner on the links - pictured just below) we travel today, to help you better understand some things that are more 'changeable' than others with your golf swing.

Read on - and make sure those who may be guiding you in creating a more functional & productive (remember: it don't matter what your swing looks like, it matters how it works - especially under the gun) motion do the same...

Invariant Properties

You know what I mean - 'things' (like your golf swing) that are resistant to change.  Hard-wired.  Deeply.  To the core (a "Core Movement Pattern," specifically).  One of those elements appears to be your relative timing, or rhythm.  Example: regardless of how fast (overall duration) you swing a club, the segments or sequencing remain the same.  It doesn't vary.

Think about it: of all the Tiger swing iterations we've seen over the years, the timing & rhythm is very much the same.  It's inherent and unique to him - and for each individual.

So what?  So...

- Try and copy/imitate/mimic someone else's motion - and beware.  Please, just be yourself; everyone else is already taken :)

- Monkey/mess with that hard-wired sequence (can you say, kinematic sequence, please) or segment - and here too, you are looking for trouble...

- Keep in mind, like in that other game called "life," there are some things that can be 'changed,' and others that will always resist.  Choose wisely.

Not buying it?  Cool - 'cause a critical mind is essential for all seekers of truth.  Click just above to view a mid 1970's version of Mr. Woods's move, and ponder (so very necessary as well in the learning, growing and evolution processes) yourself.
