Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,

In 2017 we introduced the Finding A Voice theme, and in 2018 we are expanding this program, which highlights the role folk music plays in us all finding a voice. As an artist or a listener, folk music has always inspired conversations. Whether it is a commentary on the times, a call for social and political change or facilitating for a shift in perceptions, our festival is about exploring ideas and celebrating diversity.

This year as a part of our community program we have introduced a series of fully inclusive songwriting and singing workshops for people with and without a disability in the region. These workshops, hosted by Tom Richardson, will culminate with the establishment of the Find Your Voice All Abilities Choir, who will open the community program on Friday 9 March on Fiddlers Green.

Tom will also be conducting songwriting master classes with local secondary school students early in 2018 as part of our Songwriting in the Schools Project to produce a showcase of original music which will be presented at the Railway Stage on Sunday, March 11.  We would like to acknowledge the assistance of APRA/AMCOS with funding for this project.

The Finding A Voice Forum in 2018 will feature Andy Irvine, Chris While & Julie Matthews and Nigel Wearne; these great artists will discuss with you the role social justice plays in their art.

Further workshops and forums as a part of this series are to be announced.

Early Bird Tickets close at midnight tonight. Book Now.

Warmest regards,

The Program Team x
