Today Mercury is initiating what I like to call his "backward trickster medicine dance," in preparation for his fabled journey through the very heart of the Sun -on December 12. We'll talk much more about Mercury in a moment, but first, whats up with all this backwardness, and what does it mean?!
Many people are simultaneously fascinated by retrograde motion and yet via "doom and gloom" pop astrology, have learned to dread planets moving backward. My own view is very different. If direct motion on the ecliptic represents "normal," then retrograde planets are simply out to challenge norms that have become stagnant and unhealthy.
As we can clearly see in the 2D map of the current Mercury Rx (below), retrograde planets actually move not only backward but north and south, so they are seekers, searching or testing the limits, trying out all kinds of new directions and points of view that nobody busy being "normal" might even consider! So basically Retrograde motion represents a wonderful opportunity to think, feel, see and do things a little differently -and break out of the cage of normalcy.
