As we head into the final weeks of term, all of us at SHAW are wrapping up a busy 2017.

Since January, we have hosted a range of interesting papers as part of the IHR Gender and History in the Americas seminar series. The series will restart in January: please check the schedule here: http://shawsociety.net/gender-history-in-the-americas-seminars/
(Also, please note that there will be no seminar on Monday 4 December).

Our annual conference in July at The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (University of Oxford) attracted over 30 participants from the UK and abroad. The keynote by Prof. Diana Paton (University of Edinburgh) was the highlight, but all of the conference papers showed the breadth and depth of research that is being undertaken by colleagues in history, theatre, literature, and other fields.

Shortly after the conference, the latest issue of the Society's journal, History of Women in the Americas was published. You can access the latest issue here: http://journals.sas.ac.uk/hwa/issue/view/348/showToc
Early in the new year, we will be issuing a call for papers for the next issue of the journal: more on this in a later update. If you gave a paper at the conference in July, you might be interested in submitting it for publication with us (subject to the usual peer review process).

Right, folks. That's it for 2017. Whether you celebrate a religious festival in December or not, we hope you all get to enjoy some down time as universities close for a few days of winter vacation. If you are organizing any events, or publishing books or articles, or doing anything else that you want to publicize within the Society, please e-mail details to shawsociety@gmail.com.

See you in 2018!
