ISER/BrightFocus 2017 Glaucoma Symposium

Post Meeting Sponsor Report

We are writing to express our sincere thanks for your support of the recent ISER/BrightFocus 2017 Glaucoma Symposium, held in Atlanta, Georgia October 5-8, 2017. You will recall that this “off year” meeting, a sequel to a previous ISER Symposium held in Sarasota in 2013, was designed to bring together glaucoma researchers with the theme of “Basic science catalyzing treatments for glaucoma”.

During initial planning for the meeting, we expected we would get about 125-150 attendees, including perhaps 25 attendees for the pre-meeting FastTrack program. We clearly underestimated the appetite in the community for a high-quality specialized research meeting in glaucoma: in the end, we had 200 attendees from 16 countries for the main meeting, with 102 attending the FastTrack pre-meeting!

Attendees agreed that the meeting was of extremely high-quality, and in fact, in a post-meeting survey to which 48% of attendees responded, 88% of responders stated that they were very or extremely satisfied with the meeting. Similarly, 90% reported that the quality of the platform sessions was above average or excellent, with the corresponding rate for the keynotes being 95%. Gratifyingly, 99% of responders reported that they would consider attending a similar future meeting. As one anonymous survey respondent stated, “The venue selection was really nice. Beautiful conference center hotel of a proper size. The all-inclusive format is also a great idea, assuming that the hotel was affordable. It really allows everyone to stay together throughout the meeting.” A full evaluation summary is included below.

In lieu of the number of attendees and the focused nature of the meeting, we hope that you agree that the meeting provided an excellent venue to connect with thought leaders in the glaucoma research space. Thank you for helping make this meeting a major success.

Sincerely,

C. Ross Ethier, Dan Stamer, and Rob Nickells
