New BBLCA Board Member and Volunteer
We'd like to welcome Mark Richardson to the BBLCA Board of Directors. Mark, Nancy Boyce, Sue Flanagan and Janie Zaitz were acclaimed for two year terms.

Thank you to Norm Maia for volunteering to do our Phosphorus testing starting next spring. Phosphorus and E.coli monitoring are critical to the health of our lake. We'd like to thank Rich Corbin, our E.coli tester, for his ongoing efforts. Also, a big thank you to David Stanyar who served on the board this past year and tested Phosphorus the past two years.

New Printed Directory - Spring 2018
New printed directories will be available in the spring of 2018. Email us at info@bblca.ca to update your information. If you'd like to advertise in the directory, please contact Kim Letto at kim_letto@hotmail.com.

Ice Watch
Send us photos of the ice forming from your vantage point and we'll post them on our website and Facebook page.

Big Bald Lake Beaver Contest
Stay tuned for details in 2018. Contest closes February 28th. Guess the date the beaver goes through the ice for your chance to win great prizes.

Welcome Baskets
We've been working hard on creating welcome baskets for all our new residents. We've had wonderful support from local businesses. Please let us know about new people on your road. With permission, we are posting their names and local addresses on our home page welcome column.

Like us on Facebook
Please Like our Facebook page. We regularly post articles of interest. Keep up on BBLCA News between newsletters.

BBLCA Membership Payment
We had more events and a wider variety this year than ever before and yet, membership is down. We think it's because we don't have volunteers to go door-to-door. Please pay your membership on-line if you can or email us and we'll come and pick it up. Please support us in our efforts to promote a sense of community and look after our lake. Not sure if you've paid? Contact us at info@bblca.ca. Thank you!

Environment News
Invasive non-native plants, such as Phragmites, crowd out native species which reduces food sources for our pollinators. This showy grass can be seen along our highways. One of the reasons it is so prolific is because it releases a toxin that prevents other plants, such as our native cattails, from growing. See our Environment page for more information.
Check the Peterborough County Waste Portal on our Links page if you're uncertain about what can be recycled and what's garbage. E.g., heavily soiled aluminum foil is garbage, whereas clean or lightly soiled aluminum foil can be recycled. Foil from the top of a yogurt or peanut butter container is garbage. Materials for recycling must be clean or they contaminate the load which leads to increased costs for all of us.
