FIND YOUR BALANCE

7 WAYS TO POSITIVELY MANAGE STRESS & ANXIETY AT THIS BUSY TIME OF YEAR

1. SLOW DOWN
Instead of mindlessly rushing from one thing to the next and running on adrenaline, take time out each day to take care of yourself .

Self-care practices can include things like spending time in nature and connecting to the natural world around us on a regular basis. The experience of being in nature is calming and soothing to the mind and nervous system.

2. ESTABLISHING & MAINTAINING A REGULAR DAILY ROUTINE
Implementing regularity with mealtimes, along with waking & sleeping times, will have a calming effect on your whole being. Establish a regular wind-down time at night and reduce excess mental stimulation by avoiding electronic devices at least an hour before sleeping.

3. REGULAR YOGA AND RELAXATION
Tailor your Yoga practice to the way you feel. If you are tired and frazzled slow yourself down with a more restorative session. The practice of slower and supportive stretching allows the mind and body the space to relax deeply and let go of stress and tension. Yogaveda offers two restorative sessions per week: Thursday’s Relax & Restore Class at 5.30pm with Nikki and Sunday’s Gentle Hatha/Yin at 5pm with Jasmine.

4. REGULAR ABHYANAGA – FULL BODY SELF-MASSGE
Ayurveda recommends regular full body, self-massage (Abhyanga) with warm nourishing oils. This massage is deeply pacifying to the nervous system and promotes restful sleep.

Black Seed Sesame Oil is the favoured oil because of its amazing properties; it deeply penetrates the fine channels of the body to soften and loosen toxins from the tissues.

This is an important self-care practice as the application of heat and oil is grounding and balancing to the mind and body, reducing stress and anxiety.

5. AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS TO MANAGE STRESS AND ANXIETY
Yogaveda offers a variety of calming and nurturing treatments to ease stress and tension. A popular treatment, Snehana (full-body massage) literally means to nurture, love, express kindness and compassion, qualities that are missing in our world today. Snehana has a profoundly calming effect on the mind and is deeply relaxing to the body.

6. NOURISHING FOODS AND MINDFUL EATING
Mealtimes deserve your full attention so relax, focus and enjoy your food. No multi-tasking while eating such as, eating on the run, watching TV, reading or working on the computer etc.

If you are feeling stressed and anxious, favour warm, easy to digest foods as your digestion will be compromised at this time. Avoid cold, raw, chilled food and drinks.

7. HERBAL STRESS SUPPORT
Chyawanprash or ‘Happy Jam’ is an rejuvenative formula that contains 47 herbs and medicinal fruits. The synergy of the herbs in this formulation produce a powerful anti-stress adaptogenic effect on the mind and body. This immune boosting tonic is an effective product to manage stress and fatigue conditions.

Brahmi – A powerful brain food used in Ayurveda for mental exhaustion, to enhance memory and prevent stress.

Shankapushpi – A rejuvenative tonic for the mind and nervous system. It is uplifting yet promotes tranquillity in the mind and helps manage anxiety and fear.

Vacha – A major herb for the mind that ancient Yogis and Seers used to sharpen memory and enhance awareness. Vacha promotes circulation to the brain and is beneficial when feeling burnt-out.

Jatamansi – An Ayurvedic herb known for its ability to reduce stress, improve cognitive function and sleep. It is a natural brain and memory tonic which has calming and peaceful properties to facilitate sound sleep.

Ashwagandha – This herb is well known as Indian Ginseng because of its rejuvenating properties. This herb is beneficial for reducing stress, anxiety, fatigue, depression, insomnia and improving concentration.

All these herbs are available from Yogaveda.
