Third Sector Summit
This major event was organised in partnership with Glasgow’s Third Sector Interface. The main focus of the day was to create a transformed relationship between the Third Sector and Glasgow City Council. Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council, David McDonald opened the day by thanking the Third Sector for the huge contribution it makes in the city, acting as the backbone of local communities.
There were contributions from a range of Third Sector organisations and our own Suzie Scott spoke of the importance of Third Sector networks in Glasgow, using the Citywide Forum's success as an example.
The next step will be to develop a Partnership Agreement between GCC and the Third Sector. For more information on the event, see the blog by Kathleen Caskie, Third Sector Forum Manager here.

North East Networking
Everyone's Children hosted a great networking event on 30th November alongside the Voluntary Sector North East Glasgow and the Citywide Forum. The event allowed third sector organisations working in the North East of Glasgow to build new connections with staff from health, social work, education and Glasgow City Council.
There was a real buzz in the room on the day and it was great to see so many third sector organisations present. As with our previous networking events, we have created a North East Directory, which can now be accessed here.

Significant Case Reviews - Event Report
The Citywide Forum steering group have now published the event summary report on the Significant Case Reviews & Child Protection event which took place in September.

National Youth Work Awards
Nominations for the National Youth Work Awards 2018 are now open. The National Youth Work Awards, one of the many events for the Year of Young People 2018, will celebrate youth work and the youth workers who make a difference in the lives of young people every year.

An independent panel, the GIRFEC Practice Development Panel, will be created to provide expert advice to ensure the Named Person service is workable.

Young People's Mental Health Commission
Mental Health Minister, Maureen Watt, has announced that a youth commission on Mental Health Services is to be established - a partnership between the Scottish Government, Young Scot and the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
Young people will lead a study into child and adolescent mental health services to recommend improvements to Ministers.

Child Development - Evening Programme
Tuesday 16th January, 6.30pm to 9pm - Albany Centre
The growing brain is influenced by many factors, including a child’s relationships, experiences and environment.In this course, you will learn about the crucial role staff play in supporting early brain development.
- Theory and research of early brain development
- How staff can support and influence this
- The crucial role of parents/carers
This session will be led by staff from Early Years Scotland.

Health & Social Care Standards - In Practice FREE
Tuesday 23rd January, 9.30 - 12.00 - Albany Centre
In this second GCVS briefing session, Henry Mathias, the Care Inspectorate’s Strategic Lead for Scotland’s new Health and Social Care Standards, will talk about what the Standards mean for early learning and childcare. The session will look at the Standards in detail and highlight how they will affect the inspection of registered services.

'Resilience' - Third Sector Screening FREE
Monday 29th January, 13.30 - 16.00 - Albany Centre
‘Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope’ is a trail-blazing documentary looking at the links between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and poor health/disease.
This screening is for staff and volunteers working in Third Sector organisations.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion where we explore the implications of our deepening understanding of the impact of adverse childhood experiences on practice in the Third Sector, chaired by Mary Glasgow (Interim CEO at Children 1st).

Scotland's Mental Health First Aid Training: Young People
Thursday 1st February, 9.30 - 16.30 - Albany Centre
This training is designed for anyone who is interested in supporting young people (aged 11-17) with mental health issues. It comprises one full day’s training +7 hours of e-learning.
