Choir will perform Christmas classics at The Grotto

Next Friday, December 8, the choir will sing a Christmas songs at The Grotto. The program begins at 8 pm and will feature Christmas classics such as "Silent Night," "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria," and "Joy to the World." Buy tickets at the door.

Mission Minute: 'Tis the season to share

Though this time of the year brings many joyous celebrations, it can be difficult for some.  At La Salle, it’s a time we encourage students to put aside their wants to think about others.

One way we do that is through our annual Christmas Drive. During this campaign, students donate and wrap gifts for more than 35 families whose children attend nearby Lot Whitcomb Elementary, where more than 85 percent of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches. This drive is about providing for those in need in our own neighborhood.

Another way Lasallians help is by giving life-saving blood.  During our fall Blood Drive this week, parents, staff, and students gave 67 pints, which Bloodworks Northwest will deliver to hospitals to help more than 200 people.

“I just really feel good about the fact that all I have to do is sit for about 5 minutes, give a small amount of my blood, and help save lives,” said one senior.

As I reflect on the week I am reminded that I choose to be at La Salle because we are a community that works together in support and love for all.  ‘Tis the season we are reminded of all the love we can share!

Donate cleaning supplies to Christmas Drive

As part of the Christmas Drive, La Salle is seeking donations of the following items to give to more than 35 families whose children attend Lot Whitcomb Elementary School:
  • Oral Hygiene: Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Floss
  • Body Hygiene: Body Soap, Hand Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner
  • Household Cleaning: Dish Soap, Laundry Detergent, Sanitizing Wipes, Paper Towels
Students can bring these items to their Falcon Formation class or give them to Kelsey Peyton in the Student Life Center. In addition to these household staples, each Falcon Formation class is buying and wrapping gifts for each of the children in these families.

La Salle to hold Christmas Posada on Dec. 7

The La Salle community is invited to La Salle's Christmas Posada at 6 pm on Thursday, Dec. 7 on campus.

A posada is a procession that re-enacts Mary and Joseph's search for a room on the way to Bethlehem.

The evening will include a potluck; bring a dish of food to share.

RSVP to Maritza Mendez at 503.353.1419; please tell us what you are bringing to share.

Making giving joyful

The season of giving is quickly coming upon us.  Between now and Christmas, it is possible that many of you will be making end-of-year donations to your favorite charities.

We recognize that many “asks” from La Salle and others over a short time frame is a challenge even to the most generous of souls.  Each family has its own best time and best way to give. Knowing people want to align their giving to La Salle in different ways, we provide many opportunities throughout the year, yet Christmastime proves to be a time for giving for many, and we are grateful recipients of your generosity.

Our goal and our responsibility is to make giving to La Salle a joyful experience.  To that end, we provide you with an overview of upcoming events, drives, and appeals that soon will take place at La Salle to help you achieve your personal giving objectives.

You can turn $100 into $300. Here's how.

Attention Nike employees - Nike will double match your contribution to La Salle if you designate money for sports or fitness.  You can turn a $100 gift into a $300 gift instantly, for example.  All other gifts will be matched by Nike 1:1.

Many companies match charitable donations.  We invite alumni, parents, and friends to seek these additional funds, stretching the financial impact of a donation.

The process is easy.  Your company’s HR Director will supply you with the form you need to double – and in some cases triple – your donation.

Nike, PCC, Nordstrom, Intel, Wells Fargo, The Standard, and Hanna Andersson are just a few of the companies that will bolster your investment in La Salle.
