Women In HPC November 2017 Newsletter

Welcome to the November 2017 Women in HPC Members Newsletter.

SC17 is over! Hopefully those of you who were with us in Denver two weeks ago have now fully recovered, and those that weren't have heard all the news and caught up. We now have nearly a whole year to wait until the next SC conference, but it will be hard to top our community engagement at SC17! Details of the fun WHPC had are below.

SC is the largest HPC conference in the world and is a great highlight. But our work goes on! We are organising more and more activities throughout the year and December 2017 is no exception. The 2017 CHPC National Conference in South Africa next week will feature the first BoF on Women in HPC in Africa, organised by Professor Regina Maphanga. Regina has contributed to WHPC from our earliest days, when she presented her work at a previous WHPC workshop. We are delighted that Regina has been empowered to step up and speak out. If you are able to join them, please go along and contribute to the discussion and let us know how you get on!

Our week at SC17

SC17 is over but what a week it was! It was probably the busiest week in the history of Women in HPC, with our team leading and attending events in every corner of the Denver Convention Center. As always our workshop was the highlight of our week, providing a grand start to our activities. We were honoured to also run two BoF, chair a panel on improving diversity across the international stage in collaboration with PRACE, and host an evening networking and careers reception.

We were also thrilled with the response to our #WeAreHPC campaign and diversity day, which aimed to get people talking about diversity. WHPC's ultimate goal is always to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of diversity because that is the first step to bringing about real positive change. SC17 and our diversity campaign epitomised the enthusiasm the community has for this message. Check out the campaign online - and share your #WeAreHPC photos with us. It's never too late to join in!

The icing on the cake was to once again win the HPCWire Reader's Choice Award for Workforce Diversity. This is our third year, but every year the competition is more challenging. Crucially we are honoured that the community votes for us time and time again. Thank you!

Exascale Applications and Software Conference (EASC 2018)

Edinburgh, UK. 17-19 April 2018

EASC 2018 will once again be returning to Edinburgh and encourages submissions from everyone in the community.

EASC is seeking novel contributions in all areas associated with applications, tools, software programming models and libraries, and other technologies necessary to exploit future exascale systems.

Submissions are in the form of a one page abstract for oral or poster presentation and the deadline is the 11th of December 2017.
