The Perfect Place News

Welcome to the November 2017 issue of the WBBROC newsletter.  Don't forget that the WBBROC website www.wbbroc.org.au also has up-to-date information about our organisation, projects and events.
Executive Officer of RDA Wide Bay Burnett, Scott Rowe, addressing the audience at the 2017 Regional Economic Development Growth Forum in Maryborough.

Mayors discuss regional priorities

WBBROC Mayors formed a joint panel at the recent 2017 Regional Economic Development Growth Forum.  The Forum, held at the Brolga in Maryborough, was attended by 140 government and industry representatives.

The Mayors were quizzed on the key regional priorities they have agreed to pursue together.  The benefits of access to water and telecommunications were highlighted, and the importance of the Port of Bundaberg to region was also discussed.

Business and industry representatives have regularly been reassured by the way in which all the Mayors work together to advocate for the region.

Award for WBBROC

WBBROC recently received the IPWEA Queensland 2017 Excellence Award for Water Projects over $5 million for your Joint Sewer Rehabilitation Program, supported through the Queensland Water Regional Alliance Program.

Much of the kudos for this award must go to Fraser Coast Regional Council who managed the tender process on behalf of the 6 Councils.  Their efforts meant that not only did 5 Councils not have to manage a tender process, but each Council also saved significantly on their sewer relining work.  Just one of the benefits of Councils working together!

Controlling weeds and feral pests

WBBROC recently endorsed a Regional Biosecurity Strategy which targets weeds and feral pests throughout the region.  The Strategy has the support of many other key stakeholders in the region, such as Transport and Main Roads, as well as the Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG).  This support is crucial in collaborating on weed and pest eradication projects and ensure maximum effect and eliminate any duplication.

WBBROC recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BMRG to work together on this strategy.  WBBROC and BMRG are now also working together to seek special funding for the region to implement this Strategy.
