DUT SRC PRESIDENT SHARES HIS EXPERIENCE OF THE FIRST FEW MONTHS IN OFFICE


Durban University of Technology Student Representative Council (SRC) President Siphephelo Mthembu reflected on his 100 days in office and shared his team’s preparedness to tackle students issues in 2018.

In less than two months, the 2018 academic year will resume and according to Mthembu there were a number of issues raised by students as a mandate before they were sworn in to office in September this year.

TEN DUT CADETS ARE PART OF AN INTERNATIONAL ANTARCTIC RESEARCH EXPEDITION

It’s all ‘hands on deck’ for the 10 chosen Durban University of Technology (DUT) trainee officers (cadets) who are travelling on the SA Agulhas to undergo seafarer training, as part of an international Antarctic research expedition with international scientists, for a period of three months.

The 10 DUT cadets form part of the 20 newly, selected South African cadets under the Port Elizabeth based South Africa International Maritime Institute (SAIMI), which also has 10 cadets from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), on the expedition.

MING RECEPTION FOR THEATRE PERFORMANCE

The Durban University of Technology’s Urban Futures Centre (UFC) recently launched a series of performances titled ‘The Last Country’ based on the experiences of migrant women establishing themselves in the city of Durban. The performances kicked – off to an impressive start at the Ritson’s Campus Courtyard Theatre.

The play is based on research undertaken by the UFC in partnership with the Democracy Development Program (DDP), the African Solidarity Network (ASONET) and Refugee Social Services (RSS).

DUT LECTURER EMPLOYS TECHNOLOGY TO SAVE THE PLANET

The Durban University of Technology Lecturer Prinavin Govender is on a mission to save the planet by using technology and lobbying students to be environmental advocates.

Govender lectures computer science in the department of Information Technology and has since involved himself and his students with Climate Action Project, a movement that campaigns for environmental sustainability thereby saving the planet. The movement is a student-centered project involving 250 schools over 69 countries worldwide.
